I want to bring to your attention deceptive sales pitches being utilized by Enterprise personnel. These sales pitches are utilized explicitly for the intent of deceiving consumers into purchasing a product that they do not need. On several occasions I was told by Enterprise personnel that proof of full coverage insurance was required in order to rent a car. I was told that this is company policy however when challenged to see the policy in writing, it could not be produced by any personnel or manager. Declining the offered CDW, I was not allowed the opportunity to rent a vehicle even though I met the Renter Requirements as stated on the companys website, www.enterprise.com. At no time during the incidents in question, was I without a valid drivers license, state mandated liability insurance or a major credit card.

A phone conversation with Regional Vice President, Chris Anderson, on May 23, 2012 confirmed the sales pitch to be false saying it is not company policy that consumers must demonstrate proof of full coverage insurance in order to rent a car. The companys website also confirms this as the Renters Requirements does not list any insurance requirements for consumers. My concern is the intent behind this sales pitch utilized by Enterprise personnel. Mr. Anderson claims the rental process is non-discriminatory but my experiences have been otherwise.  Personnel have practiced distinguishing between consumers with full coverage insurance and consumers without full coverage insurance, discriminating against the latter.

The deceptive sales pitch utilized by Enterprise personnel unfairly target the ignorance of consumers. It is unfair to consumers and competitors of Enterprise. These deceptive and unfair practices may even be in violation of consumer protection laws in the consumers respective state.

Enterprise has yet to address the deceptive practices as confirmed by Mr. Andersons statement that interviews with personnel did not reveal any improper conduct. Lack of acknowledgement of these practices as improper has allowed a culture of tolerance to fester. Tolerance of consumers being coerced out of their hard earned money through deception and outright lies.

I implore Enterprise Rent-A-Car to settle this issue:  list under Renters Requirements the personal insurance requirement, if any. Omission of this requirement has allowed personnel a foothold to deceive consumers. Your resolve in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I have been going back and forth with Mr. Anderson in the complaint process through TNs Dept. of Commerce and Insurance. A complaint has also been filed with MOS consumer protection division and the FTC. I have a petition o, Change.org, addressing this concern. If you have experienced anything similar sign the petition or contact me to compare notes. Let our voices be heard!
