My husband and I recently rented a car from this Enterprise location for over the Christmas holiday. We were going on a road trip with the kids and wanted a nice car. My husband made the reservation on-line. When we arrived at the store we were told that on-line reservations required additional paperwork and we needed to be able to provided it (copy of utility bill to prove billing address was correct) before we could rent the car. OK, we drove home and got the paperwork. This requirement needed to be clearly stated on-line or at least included in the confirmation email that my husband received. We paid our $300 deposit (a little high for this area) but we agreed considering we knew we were getting to have a nice holiday. We enjoyed our car. It was new and very nice. We kept the car for a week.

Upon return, we were informed that they had charged our card an additional $125 just 2 days before our return date. They called this an additional deposit. A what? $425 is an excessive deposit for renting a car. Especially since we were not informed that there would be an additional charge to our card. The clerk lamely apoligized and said we should have been informed. Lot of good that does days later! Granted we will get that money refunded but the idea that we were not clearly informed that the additional money would be charged to us, for what ever reason, was unfair and inappropriate. The clerk there on the moring of our return was confused and looked to have not been completely trained. I will be making a compaint directly to the store manager and also the corporate office.

That does not sound right

I have rented from Enterprise several times, mainly because they have several local offices that make it convienient and never once was asked for a copy of my utility bill. The only thing that I can think of is that your Address on your DL did not match the address you gave, or you were paying by a debit(not credit) card.

As for the deposit, I can not speak for the $300, but I do know that most companies will charge between $200-$300 or the Estimated cost of the rental, which ever is more. So it could be that you had kept the car longer than said. Such as you put in 4 days, when in fact it is a week.

It does not sound like it is really a rip-off(just inconvienient), as you said you will get the money back and you said it was a nice car. I don't know if any of these things match your case, it is something you should talk to their management to get some clarification.
