just bought the radar dector brand new on e bay. i used it 1 hour and power reset comes on. they want 79.99 to fix it, because i did not directly buy it from them. i bought brand new from e bay. if you buy a honda from johns auto, honda warranties the product. not excort, this american company is wrong. oh yes the 79.99 repair is only good for 6 months, then you must send it back again. they do not stand there product

Look at it this way

If it is any consolation, you saved $120, so even after the $80 for the fix you would still be up $40. Maybe you could contact the seller and see if he could score you any receipts.

most warranties are voided if you purchase from a reseller instead of an authorized dealer.  This is because the manufacturer has no idea if the reseller made any unauthorized changes to the unit.  Most sellers on E-bay are resellers, consequently, no warranty.  This is one of the hazards of purchasing something on E-bay.  My rule is, if it is something I want the warranty on, I pay the higher price from an authorized dealer.

Most companies

You didn't give many details but most companies will "void" their warranty if you do not buy it from an "Authorized Reseller".  Also, with most companies the warranty applies only to the Original Purchaser and will not transfer.  So if someone buys it from a Authorized Reseller and then "sells" it to you then you are no longer covered under the warranty.

Of course there are ways around this.  Such as if that person paid cash for it from an authorized reseller, and then sells it to you but also gives you the original receipt.  There is no way for the company to prove that you were not the original purchaser.

So unless the person you bought it from is an Authorized Reseller you are probably out of luck.  Since you only used it for an hour what does the person you bought it from say about returns?

Non-transferable

Most warranties on goods are non-transferable. meaning if I buy a TV and then sell the TV on ebay to someone else, the warranty stays with me and does not transfer to you. Was this ebay seller an authorized distributer of this product? If they were not, then you have no warranty. When you buy a product from say Best Buy they have gone through the trouble to become an authorized distributor of their products. The company is correct, whomever sold you this item has the warranty, not you. If you JUST purchased it have you contacted the ebay seller for a refund? or contacted them to see if they will use the warranty and send it in since they have the original warranty?

Pretty crappy policy if you ask me. How much did you pay for it on Ebay? What was the Ebay item #?
