etax.com Charged me $94.85 for filing my income tax when they said they filed Federal Income Tax for free La Jolla California
On February 5, I was trying to file my federal income tax, using a free-file service. I had tried a couple of companies that I had used in the past, but for some reason was unable to log in. So, because eTax.com said they filed Federal Income Taxes for free, I decided to use them.
As I was working through the process, I tried to read and understand their "fine print", but must have missed something very important. When I pressed the "File" button, I was shocked beyond belief that they were charging me $94.85 for a return of less than $600.
As it turns out, although I live in a state that does not have income tax, I was charged their full package price. I was sick to my stomach, and livid that a company can take this kind of advantage of someone.
I hope this post allerts people who are trying to file their taxes for free, to read and re-read the fine print before proceeding to the finish line, because at that point, it seems that there is no turning back and undoing what has happened.
