Complaint Review: European Destinations

European Destinations I booked travel friends with dates of 12-3 to 12-13-15. I paid additional for travel insurance. Due to a family emergency I called to cancel my trip on 11-3-15. Rockville Maryland

Earlier this summer, I booked a trip with friends for travel in December 3 - 13, 2015.  I paid for the trip on my credit card at that time and also paid $241.14 additional for travel insurance which I was told would cover travel cancellations.    

On November 3, 2015 my only daughter was rushed to hospital and had to undergo abdominal surgery.  Doctors told her recovery would be 2 months and she could not lift ANYTHING more than 15 lbs for at least 2-4 months.  She is currently at home, cannot drive and cannot lift.  Her daughter, aged 13 (my only granddaughter) was born with cerebral palsy and is in a wheel chair unable to walk or lift hersel in and out the wheelchair.  I called to cancel my trip as my assistance would be needed on a daily basis with care for my granddaughter.  

My initial contact with the company was treated with courtesy but I was told there would be all sorts of penalties and my air travel could not be refunded - I could only receive a voucher for the same flights with penalties on different dates.  I was instructed to send them an email to contact@europeandestinations.com and to put my booking# and the words "cancellation inquiry" in the subject line.

I received an inital reply to my email stating the same info I had been told on the telephone.  I explained that I had travel insurance and they checked and acknowledged that was so.  Although my booking papers state that I paid for the Horizon Travel Plan, that is not the company.  I asked for the name and contract info of the travel insurance company which had not been provided on the initial booking document.  

I have emailed 3 times and had phone contact with the company 5 times.  My latest 2 contacts were with Frederick on 11/14,  Allan on 11/17.  This resulted in receiving 2 more resends of the inital email I received 2 x before but nowhere is the name and contact info for the travel insurance company I paid for. 

My friends are traveling on 12-3-15 and I cannot get any help to cancel my trip.  I believe they are trying to keep me in a holding pattern until it is too late.

MY ADVICE - NEVER BOOK WITH THIS AGENCY FOR ANY REASON!
