I was looking for one ticket to the Alice In Chains concert at the SLC venue The Depot a few days before the actual show. I clicked a link online to eventticketcenter.com and tried to purchase just one ticket - I think the listed cost was $77.  I clicked it a few times and got a message saying "we are unable to process your request", or somesuch.  I figured that maybe the event was sold-out, but going back to the listing it kept showing 2 tickets.

There was a number on the site which said for help with your order call: 866-237-6204.  This was the number (unbeknownst to me) for mytickettracker.com.  I spoke to a live representative who basically lied to me and withheld information about the nature of the tickets I was buying.  I was told that these two tickets were being held on reserve and that the "Seller" would only release them as a pair.  I HAD to buy two in order to get the tickets. I was never given any other alternative, or told that I had basically entered a venus flytrap.  With all this disinformation, I went ahead and purchased the last two tickets, knowing I only wanted one, and thinking of a friend I could invite to split the cost. (He didn't end up paying it once I explained the situation - not even the base price, but that's cool, and another story).

When I got off the phone after completing the transaction I was curious about how much I'd been gouged.  I knew I was paying a bit extra to purchase them this way, and was told such.  The actual venue - The Depot - Listed them at $57 I think, and I know that a local ticket seller had them at $66.  I paid $255.12 and that was supposed to include the fees (venue and handling).  When I saw my bank statement, there was the $255.12 AND the $15 venue fee AND the $8 handling fee (both legitimate).

Thes people are on-line ticket scalpers. I was lied to about the availability and the nature of the tickets and told the only way to get them was as a pair, and that some ominous "Holder" of tickets had placed them on "reserved" status.

What a bunch of lies!  Shame on you both - the scalper and his frontman.

I have started a dispute through my bank but thought it good to spread the word.

Oh - also at the end of our call, knowing I'd been raped, they offered me the chance to recoup "up to" $50 by listening to another offer (Greatfun.com).  Turned out that it was technically only $25, minus one dollar - and I've cancelled that offer to avoid a $16.95/month membership fee.
