They promised me a good roof and carpentry in a "workmanlike manner". The subcontractor tore off half my roof then demanded a signed contract and 1/2 payment, which differed from the original verbal agreement. The owner said to sign and pay and that I would get a good roof, and that if I had any problems to call and he would intervene. But I could see that they were making many mistakes, so I called the company many times asking for intervention.

No one ever responded and the subcontractor would not listen to me. Before the owner of the company ever even saw the mess he demanded the other payment and threatened to put a lien on my home.

The work is shoddy and did not pass any inspection. Many shingles are damaged and many not nailed down at all. The valleys were not properly laced. I told the owner not to let the subcontractor back on my property or I would call the police, but he came back anyway and tried to glue the shingles in place with black tar. Now the owner says that it's my fault that the roof is bad because I wouldn't let them fix it and because I watched them work.

The roof is so bad that I need my down payment back so that I can hire another company to start the whole thing over again. But the company is threatening to put a lien on my house, and I got a letter today saying that I owe $3300 more than I did when the subcontractor submitted his bill of completion just 3 weeks ago.

I am beginning to think that they screwed up the job on purpose so that I would complain and refuse to pay, because now they're using it to justify a much higher bill with doing even less work.
