Exact Car Care Charlie Kovach Charged me for work that was not done! Canton, Ohio

I took my van in to Exact Car Care to get the transmission fixed through an extended warranty claim. After they told me did the work, they said that I needed a new engine as well because it was making a loud noise. I questioned him (Charlie Kovach) about it because the car made no noise at all when I took it in. The warranty company supposedly came out and heard the noise and allowed the replacement of the engine.

Months later I had an airbag recall and had to take the van into the Honda dealership for repair. I had always had a feeling that Exact Car Care was shady and asked Waikem Honda to check the engine to see if it had been replaced. They said it had not! I was shocked but kind of knew the answer before they told me. Exact Car Care did not do the work they claimed they did, yet charged me for shop supplies.

I had to pay over $300.00 in shop supplies that were not covered by the extended warranty for work that was not even done. Add to that the fact that they ordered the wrong transmission in the first place and had my only family-sized vehicle for over two months. Beware of this company. They may be great for doing oil changes but do not trust them to do major repairs.

The owner, Charlie Kovach, even told me he was putting off doing my vehicle because "oil changes are where I make most of my money. I'm not going to make any money off of your repair." I think he made up the engine noise and just wanted to charge me for the "shop supplies" to make a few hundred dollars off of me. Don't trust this guy!

There was no court action against Exact Car Care in this matter. Since this report filed in 2010 the author of this report has been back to Exact for oil changes and other services. We have asked that this report be removed but against the sites policy it cannot. However, proof of the matter this situation has been resolved sits in email correspondance shown below.

Yes, I am aware I still need to do that. I have to recover my logins for the sites. I'll let you know when it is complete.

Replies like yours always make me chuckle. It's plainly obvious that 1 of 2 possibilities exists:

1. Only after you took the owner to court did he agree to make things right. Part of the settlement was you agreeing to post on ROR a retraction of sorts. If this is the case then the owner of the company is still a jerk that tried to rip you off.

2. Your original claim is tainted and the owner isn't all that bad of a guy and didn't really treat you poorly. Difficult to imagine being that you had to take legal action. If this is the case then you're a jerk for slandering an honest businessman.

You stated in your original report "Don't trust this guy!". I think that may still be the truth.

After taking Exact Car Care to court and winning, Exact Car Care was willing to work with me so we didn't have to involve the courts in a verdict. The owner of Exact Car Care (Charles Kovach) was always courteous to me throughout our negotiations. He attributed the work not getting done to a rogue employee. I offered him a plan to make both of us happy. He agreed to replace the engine as well as not charge me for any shop supplies and gave me a warranty on the work done. He also threw in free oil changes for a year.

So far I have had no problems with the work that was done and he has followed through with the lube, oil, and filters. I feel he has redeemed himself and I am even going through with a follow-up letter here so everyone knows.
