We were contacted by phone by Excel Servicing Ltd  to offer to service my Dyson vacuum cleaner, but who I understood to be  the manufacturers (Dyson). As it happened to coincide with the electric cable on the vacuum needing repairing I agreed to the "offer" and arranged for them to visit. The service engineer arrived and carried out what he said was the service and changed the cable but then it didn't switch on at all. The engineer said that it needed a small copper strip which he didn't have so said he'd take the machine , get it fixed and return it. We paid for the service and £19.99 for the new cable.

Eight days late the machine was returned by a different engineer, which he switched on to show that it had been fixed, albeit the machine now had another cable  which was second hand but by now my husband, who was suspicious of the company not being the manufactureres, had googled the Excell Servicing name and seen previous rip-off reports but we decided to cut our losses. However when it came to using the machine there was now suction and the cable backplate fell off, presumably damaged whilst replacing the cable. We contacted Excel to speak to management but couldn't get past the switchboard operator who arranged for another visit.

Seven days later a 3rd engineed visited, listened to the saga to date, tinkered with the machine but couldn't cure the lack of suction or fix the broken cable backplate at which point we had lost confidence in the company and asked for a refund so that we could have it repaired elsewhere. The engineer made a phone call to his supervisor who was reluctant to give a refund but gave us a commitment to restore the machines suction and replace the broken cable backplate, then return it to us early the following week.

By the middle of the following week we'd not hear from Excel so phone them only to be told that whilst it was fixed it wouldn't be returned to us for another week ( over 4 weeks since the saga began)

As we were going to be away on the day they planned to return it we arranged for our daughter to receive it which she did. On our return we found the suction to have been fixed but not the broken cable backplate replaced.

We gave up on Excel, my husband bought a replacement backplate on Ebay and we wrote off the whole shambolic performance by Excel to bad experience which we hope this report will save other unsuspecting victims from being subjected to.
