Experian Free Credit Report.com IS NOT FREE!! Irvine California
I am a single father of two children, who has been unemployed because my last company moved over seas. As such, I one day wanted to see my credit report to be sure everything was in order - (I was going to try and get some loans for continued education so I could have better prospects at finding a new job).
Well, as many already know, www.freecreditreport.com is NOT free. When you went onto their web page, on a second page, where you had to scroll down to read (in font size 6, in a very light shade of gray) is says if you do not contact them back within 7 days, you are 'agreeing' to enter into their "Advantage Enrollment Plan" or some sort of customer service plan. Since I experienced my problem with them, they now have changed this to be on the first page where you don't have to scroll down to see it, (but its still in light gray font size 6 though).
Anyway, I was duped into believing my free credit report was free. Nope. They of course debited my checking account of $14.95. Not much you may think. But, I am unemployed, and it may as well been $1,000.
By them debiting this unexpectedly, I missed a mortgage payment, and 'bounced' a grocery bill, because I had to cancel my only bank account fearing my identity had been stolen. It has only spiraled down hill from there.
This act is akin to going to the grocery store, and then having them debit your bank account a week later because they say you didn't read your entire receipt where it says you will automatically be 'enrolled' in a food service program if you do not call them back to cancel your 'trial membership'...
Thievery made legal. But, that is the normal business practice in multiple industries today. Try and think of any company that cant 'just' sell a product or service, there is alway some sort of hidden fee, or rule, or specification that they try and hide from you until it is too late.
Apparently this is all, somehow legal, and I will get nothing back, yet because of Experian (owns freecreditreport.com) I am now 2 months behind on mortgage, owe my old bank $200 for the bounced check, all the while still have no job prospects...
Bottom line - DO NOT GO TO www.freecreditreport.com! Do not get fooled like I did.
If you want your free credit report - go to: www.(((REDACTED)))!
