Credit bureaus are not correcting errors in credit reporting.

They are fractionalizing the reports.

Fractionalizing is when they take reports with over-lapping data and then make them separate reports.

In my case, another individual is using my husband's social security number. The thief is most likely an illegal alien with no number of his own.

Since the names did not match, the credit bureaus all three of them created a new file for the identity theif using the thief's name and my husband's social security number.

He NOW has his very own credit report! With his own FICO score.

But the ID info he used does not belong to him.

The credit bureau's will not release the information in the fraudulent report to the victim of the fraud(my husband) so we have no access to the listing of accounts opened by fraudulent application.

I have been having to fish for accounts by calling individual creditors on my own and asking if they have any accounts open for our number's. This is time consuming and since all Mastercards and Visa's are owned by their respective banks I have no way of knowing if I have gotten them all.

The credit bureaus actually told me they could not release the fraudulent credit files citing the ID theifs right to privacy to commit his crimes using our social security numbers.....

ummm.....I thought since it is our social security number and we are the victims we would actually have more right not less to the information.

They received from us copies of the ID theft affidanit from the FTC notarized, copies of the DL, social security card, and our police report. They have also received letters from my attorney's.

Nothing helps......

The IRS knew about the ID theif 12 years ago when he started filing taxes using our personal information, but they will not release their information either. Since when does the theif have more right to privacy than the victim? Why do I ahve to violate myself daily and provide to every Tom,d**k and Harry a copy of our identification, but he obviously never had to provide any to sign up for the accounts?

The Credit bureau's should be required to provide and acknowledge these alternative files to the consumer.

I only finally after weeks of wrangling and complaining finally tricked one representative into admitting this individual in FACT has a credit report with MY HUSBANDS social security number in it, and we are not allowed to view it.

Please complain today to all three bureaus to change their policy's and to address the issue of the right to privacy belongs to the TRUE owner of the Identity.

Write your congressman about ID theft. Call you senator. Demand the FCRA be changed to protect the ID theft victim, not allow the credit bureau's to fractionalize files and collude with fraudulent criminals and become accessories to crime by omission ( they will not admit that alternate files exist)
Collusion ( by maintaining the criminal's access to your ID information)
Failure to execise due diligence in their record keeping.
Violation of immgration law (by knowing there are two files for two distinct individuals) and failing the validate a file that is 11 years old versus a file that is 40 years old.

By failing to question how a Alien got a social security number issued in 1966 and he wasn't born until 1969. All social security numbers are encoded the the issuing state. This social security number was issued in the state the TRUE owner resides in. The Alien lives in California........over 3000 miles away. The TRUE owner lives less than 5 miles from where he lived when the card was issued.

This just gets more ridiculous by the day.

This fraudulent credit report allowed the following credit to be issued for the thief on his own credit report where it will never show to us to be detected:

1 home mortgage

7 auto loans-in the last 18 months(at least-there maybe more but I have not found them all yet)

and approximately 17 credit cards (GE Financial services was particulary bad with 6 cards, apparently once you got in there they process multiple department store credit lines-he got them all)
