We used the pay-at-the-pump option to purchase $10 worth of gas on the way to work at 8:30 a.m. at the Exxon station at Elmwood Ave and Main St in Columbia SC. When I got to work, I checked the bank account to realize...with great dismay and disgust...that the same Exxon station had put a HOLD on our debit card for $75, and also charged $3.65 for the "convenience fee" for paying at the pump. We spent most of the day trying to figure out how to get that hold released, and the hold has yet to be released at 5:30 p.m. today. We have called Winnsboro Petroleum, who has been VERY helpful and diligent in their efforts to assist us. We have called the station in an attempt to talk to the owner of the station (Venetta Bell), who is never there. We were told to call Citibank, that supposedly handles the secondary payment processing (i.e., pay-at-the-pump) and received only a person who seemed "programmed" to deliver a message and provided NO help whatsoever. The moral of the story is DO NOT USE A DEBIT CARD AT THE PAY-AT-THE-PUMP GAS STATIONS...always go inside and prepay.
