On the evening of March 31, 2009, I went to Fair Exchange Auto to look at possibly purchasing a new vehicle. After an hour of being shown different vehicles that were not to my satisfaction, I was highly pressured by several male employees and was led to believe I was at the point of no return and had to purchase a vehicle. As a single, young woman having never purchased a vehicle and being misled and bullied about my rights, I settled on a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. During the financing portion, I was pressured by Marco L. to falsify certain income information and contact references to get approved for sub-prime financing of 25% interest. After returning home with the vehicle, it was discovered that there were several cosmetic, functionality and mechanical flaws with the vehicle. On April 1, 2009, within 24 hours of purchase, I attempted to return the vehicle by myself, when I was again bullied by several male employees into believing that I was not able to return the vehicle. I returned later that afternoon with my uncle and was able to return the vehicle, but was denied my $500 down payment refund. I am currently working with my bank to dispute the $500. The purpose of this complaint is to provide a warning to other people in my situation about the unfair, sexist, and unethical sales practices of this business. I am also appalled at the fact that any business would sell a vehicle in such deplorable condition to anyone, much less taking advantage of an inexperienced woman.

You falsified income information on the loan application. That is against the law. Doesn't matter if someone told you to do it. You know it's wrong and you should refuse to do it. As for the 25% interest rate, they can't charge you that unless you agree to it. You have the option to walk out at any time. You dodged a bullet by being able to get out of the deal. In the future, you need to be prepared to say "no" when you're offered ridiculous deals like this.

In addition, when shopping for a used vehicle, get it thoroughly checked out by a mechanic before signing on the dotted line. Used vehicles are sold "as is" and if you buy a lemon, you pretty much own the problems that it has as soon as you drive off the lot.
