I graduated from college in December. For those who don't know, it is basically impossible for someone in my profession to get hired in December. Usually if there is a job available, it is not a good situation for a newbie to get into so I must wait until fall to get started.

After graduation, I had recently moved to Springfield and could not find a job anywhere. I was "overqualified" or it was part time, or something of that nature. After a couple of months of seeing the Fairfield commercials on tv and how everyone was "having fun and making money too!" I decided to give it a whirl. I mean come on, I am a smart person. If these people are making 37 bucks an hour, there is no reason I cant. And that was it.

I was very apprehensive about the whole thought of selling vacation packages over the phone. I mean, why not just list them on Orbitz or send out fliers or something. But I went through my weeks worth of training and came out believing that Fairfield was the best company ever. I mean come on, how could these people not WANT to take these cheap vacations. No pressure, just a casual tour, and a huge discount. I sold a ton of packages that week.

Our call center is located within 30 miles of Branson MO. While down there for dinner one night, I happened to pass one of the hotels I had been telling people about. This "first class hotel, three stars or better..." was not what I expected. We drove around and eventually found several of the hotels we talk up to our customers. I was disapointed. I went home and did some research. I came to find that these "luxurious" hotels were nothing more than run down roadside motels. Some with no pools, far away from the main attractions, etc. I also found that if you book a room yourself off the internet, you pay no more than 40 bucks a night for some of them. I sold a 3 day/2 night there for 149! I felt guilty. I researched some of the other hotels we use and was utterly disapointed. No wonder people wouldn't want to just jump at the opportunity. I had basically told them how awesome things were going to be there. Told them we put them in NICE hotels (as we are instructed to in training) that are always first class hotels. These people trusted my word, especially being a local in the Branson area. I felt horrible. I always want to have people's best interests in mind, no matter what job I do. So, based on my research I decided to compensate, i would begin to pitch my packages lower. Im honest, to a fault. If I don't feel like I am being honest, I wont sell. I need to believe myself that these people are getting a great deal. So at 99 bucks, it seems like a deal to me ;)

And then a couple weeks later, we had a meeting. The person who was running the meeting instructed us to insist in payment right away on the phone. Do not allow them to get online because if they happen to accidently google Fairfield Resorts instead of heading to our cozy www.fairfieldfun.com website, they would be directed to the ripoff report site. So naturally, I went home, googled it, and wound up here. I have spent a good deal of time reviewing this site. In all honesty, I strive to not be one of those people you read about here. Consequently, I am on the verge of being fired for not meeting my sales quota. I always nailed the quota before I realized I had been trained to be deceitful. Once I cleared that up and played the honest route, I don't get many sales. But you better believe that the ones who do buy from me know about the sales tour, and exactly what they are getting for their money.

The people I work with are all nice people. We are the bottom of this company's food chain so I don't hold it against my coworkers. They too came in to this company the same way I did, through that training class where you are taught to believe that this is the worlds best company with awesome vacation deals. However, most of them are not as curious as I am, and have never questioned the ways of the company. To be honest, I dont think many of them even realize that they are being deceitful. We are told to say in our pitch that "Fairfield processed over a half million credit card transactions without a single complaint last year" and " Over 500,000 families enjoy the Fairfield lifestyle". It is clear from this site, there are many who also do not enjoy the lifestyle, but coming out of the training here, you would NEVER think that. I don't think most of the people who work there have a clue.

If I could leave, I would. But I am stuck. No one else will hire me. Being a college graduate, you would think people would be lining up to hire me, even in typical retail or sales jobs. Nope. Overqualified, despite the fact I really know nothing about their product or services. I continue to struggle every week to even get a couple of sales. However, I never go to bed feeling guilty about screwing over someone.

In the fall I will begin my professional career and once again enjoy an honest employer with no "hidden secrets". Unfortunately, student loans, rent, insurance, etc must be payed until then. So for those of you who answer the phone and immediately start screaming at the Fairfield Rep, please be nice for the next few weeks. I am honest and trying to earn a living just like you, unfortunately I just work for someone that many of you dislike.

I too have worked for Wyndham, and i will have to say that at 29 and a college graduate, that i was promised huge checks for making dreams come true! After my first day, i had it figured out, as a member services rep, All we are payed to do is go to the owners room, lie to them and create a problem, only to upgrade their worthless vacation portfolio!! If it was such a great value, then why can you buy the product on ebay for pennies on the dollar!! Simple, BECAUSE the product sucks!!!

There are many sites where people will give you their points to relieve the burden of the mat. fees. Sure, the points are inflation proof, but the mat. fees are not, and they go up every year. When your children are handed this financial burden, it will be so expensive that you could go on vacation for the same price as the mat fees. Take a look at hotel/vacation resorts in the last ten years, they are one of the only things that have not inflated. A hotel Ten years ago was 59.00, and today is still about the same, but the mat fees have tripled in the last ten years!!! VALUE??? HELL NO!!! If it was such a great value, these timeshare companies would not be reporting record profits in this time of financial recission!!!

Before you buy a timeshare, look at what you will spend over the years, and think real hard, Because it is truly a rip off! I left the company because of moral and respect for my self! The managers and directors are snakes, and that is how they got to where they are in the company! I have never held a job where lying and deceit will gain you wealth and promotions! BUT with wyndham it sure will!! If you are an owner, and are approached by a member services rep., take this advice, DO NOT LISTEN TO THEM!!! THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR ACCOUNT, IT IS A SCAM JUST LIKE THE FIRST TOUR YOU EVER TOOK!!!!!

Just coming out of School and expecting any job to be great is false, Tis 2007.
I worked on the side of fairfield on the frontline sales. I was the one that gave the 90 min tours. I think that the $149 is nothing to pay for the 3 days in a town that the ave hotel is $59.00 but this is branson...the home of the cheap vacation and the people that are called know it.

Now the clients on the tours are treated Nice and 99% of them will spend $1500-2500 on a cheap vacation.

All Timeshare says is if you are going to toss the money out on vacation fine,do it ,but look at the hundrends of options for the same money.
the math is simple at that point spend the money and pay for a Vacation Ownership plain that a couple or single person can afford. Then have FREE vacations for a lifetime for the entire family and friends. I Own and Stay at places that are $600.00 per night and all I pay is $75.00 per night at the most.

I have white water rafted, rented boats, eaten in better places because all of my money was not taking care of the place to stay. I rented a Harley for a week with my vacation
ownership....if you are still working at at the call center. They should have told you that most people in the United States will spend $5000.00 on a decent vacation...keep your head up kid life is too short.

#23Consumer Suggestion

Mon, April 23, 2007

The salespeople recruited for Fairfield Resorts in Branson, Mo are told that they can earn up to $40,000-$50,000 per month and only work 30 hours weekly. Needless to say any person looking to get rich quick runs for that deal. That type of salesperson does not hestitate to be misleading if it gets the sale.

Consumers are mislead about the resale values, the ease of reselling, conveniently not told about annual fees and mislead about the usage of the timeshare. That is nothing more than fraud and deception. That is not selling, that is stealing. Melissa should be commended for walking away from that company.

Dear fairfield employees

Erin - Ozark, Missouri

first of all you do make mor money than most. A company that steals a lot will have the ability to pay out more. I worked at rhe Indianapolis office at least 3/4 of the members I spoke with stated they had been lied to by someone in sales. I went on two tours and was completely lied to on both occasions. Many of my fellow agents were fired for reporting these lies. Also I saw many agent unable to meet there quota because they spent too much time cleaning up after thieves. The reallity is that by working at fairfield you are helping a company that ruins the finnancial lives hundreds of employees and thousands od customers by lying for money. I hope you get to see it before they do it to you.

The above is a catchy phrase that Fairfield uses in all of their now hiring campaigns in the Springfield, Mo area. I worked there for a little over three months.

At first, it was great, the training was fun, the pay was awesome(my first check with commission was over $1200 gross for two weeks work!). I thought, "Hey, this telemarketing thing aint too bad,".

My FIRST manager was great. He was very laid back and so were his assistants. Everyone on the team was selling great, and feeling good. After my second week on the floor, we had a new manager for our "team", because our manager got promoted to another office.

The first impression of our new manager was that she was a total "go-getter". I thought this would be something good. If I'm doing this good with a laid back boss, I'll be doing great with a opposite kind of boss. I was wrong. Week after week I just could not sell well. It was the same with the entire team. We all saw our sales drop. But why? We were selling the same package as before, we're the same team-except the manager.

She really rubbed people the wrong way-day after day, people kept quiting and not showing up. She was loud, brash, and harassed people while they were on the phone, all because they didnt rebuttal grandma. "What are you DOING!?! She said she had grandkids, USE THAT!!" She actually shouted that at a salesperson during their call. During that time my sales dropped and I was written up twice about my performance.

It's hard to sell 3 day 2 night trips to places in California and Nevada to old people who live in the northen most part of Washington State. And those weren't the only people we called. We called mostly people who have already been rebuttled to death by fifteen other Fairfield telemarketers. OH-And they even wrote a letter to all of us employees, telling us not to put people on our "Do Not Call List" unless the SPECIFICALLY say "Put me on your Do Not Call List!" If they say "Take me off your list," or "Stop calling me!" or anything else like that, we just put their name back into the computer to be called later. All because too many records were being deleted. Ahh, so sad! Guess what, I still have that letter!!

After a month with her she switched to dayshift because of "personal" reasons. Our new boss was the Assistant to the team that was the best sellers in the building. I thought, "There is no way we can lose out with this woman,".

If she can help lead a team to the top as assistant, she definetly be what we need in a manager.

At first it was ok. But my sales were still lacking. Finally I was written up for lack of sales, and this time the next action to be taken would be termination.

My boss told me my other managers were wondering why after all this time, with my "crappy" sales, I was still working there. Honeslty, I wasn't the worst seller their. But I think my sales dropped because by that time I had learned of the company's shady deals. A close friend of mine actually bought a package and had a horrible time. Their experience is too lengthy to explain here.

Anyways,
She said she defended me and said I "was trying".
I was terminated the beginning of the following week. I understood, and asked for my final paycheck. She said that it would be mailed to me on our next scheduled payday, which was 11 days away. NOTE: Missouri Law says that at the time of termination, you are to recieve your check then, and if the company delays, you are owed pay for the days you did not have that check.

Right at this moment I am battling to get my final check. I have spoken to the Corporate (CENDANT) HR, local media, the state Labor office, and even to Senator Jim Talent. His office says that what they are doing is highly illegal, and this should not be going on.

Another thing, the $1,000 sign on bonus that they also use to get people to apply, is NOT a sign on bonus. It a sales bonus for making a certain amount of sales your first 8 weeks. Sign on bonuses are what you get for signing up for doing a job.

They needed people there s****.> Hopefully everyone in Springfield will hear of the scams this business is doing, not only to customers, but to their own workers, and they will leave this area.

I may be more cynical than the majority. The handful of employees who take pride in a less than reputable employer are exhibiting a rare ability. To be prideful in the face of questionable ethics. Gee, how charming.

Good for you, I guess.

I have another perspective however. Late last night, around 8:45 p.m. west coast time I received a phone call from a number I did not recognise. Because I have privacy manager and have completed as many "do not call registries" as I thought were possible, I did not expect to be getting a telemarketer call.

It was a fellow named "chad". When I mentioned the late time slot, that the call woke my young daughter and perhaps call times should be examined, he replied with a snarky: "well, your attorney general set those times...and YOU voted for him." (doubtful, he was appointed by that joke, Bush)

I was stunned for a moment, then responded with a "well, CHAD...you're quite the smart***, please remove my number from your call list, this call is over!"

If the employees of Farfield Resorts are half as ill mannered as this "chad" kid, we can all rest, assured that the company will implode upon itself and with luck, be featured of some savvy news show in primetime.

The company AND it's employees have no shame. Bleck!

Christopher,

You are good! Anyone that has ever worked as a SALES REP at Fairfield knows your a Sales Rep yourself or you work in some other office for Fairfield/Wyndham! You are like most of the top salesman (there are only a dozen or so at each site that actually make it), you know how stretch the truth to make a sale, if it's on the phone, on the street or in the office.

Marketing doesn't know everything that goes on with the Sales Reps. I know many marketers and they stay longer than the sales team does. They just have to lie to get people to tour, not to spend $20,000 or so! It's a little easier, that is for sure.

You are a shareholder? Are you an employee or relative of an employee? Yes, you can stay at Fairfield Resorts for $2.00 per 1,000 points, every employee knows that so you probably did take these trips for less.

Just tell the truth. I know many people who own with Fairfield, some satisfied at times but all admit they were lied to at the beginning and are still being deceived in one way or another. I am still in contact with people I sold to who still can't get where they want to go or were told by my Manager's they could go for sure.

Why lie, it's not worth it? By the way, there may only be 60 complaints on THIS WEBSITE in 4 years, but there are many others.

it is impossible you got all of that for less than $200. thats how much i pay and i dont get anywhere near all of that stuff that you get. it is funny that you bring all of those companies up that are related to fairfield because that is the same pitch that the sales people used to get me to buy.. my question is are you really a share holder or just another sales rep.

Any large company that does any sort of volume is bound to have complaints. Only 60 complaints in 4 years (on this site), considering the type of volume the company does, speaks volumes. To say that upper levels of the company are "shady" is ridiculous> I am a share holder of Cendent Corp. Tjhey own Fairfield resorts. They also own Avis and Budget rental cars; Lodging.com; CheapTickets(.com); RCI, Century 21 and Coldwell Banker; Wingate Inn; Ramada Inn and Travel Lodge. These are great companies and offer exceptional value to their customers.

Also, I took a Nascar Trip to Vegas and paid very little. I got a nice room, gift cards and 5 laps on a Nascar Track with a professional driver- WHERE ELSE CAN YOU DO THIS FOR LESS THAN $200?

#23Author of original report

Mon, July 03, 2006

Erin. I am sorry that I offended you. Obviously, that was not my intention. To be honest, I know you are truely one of the honest people there that do things the "right way". My past post did say "most" not all of the people there. And, lets be honest, there are a lot of people there who are not that way. And while you take the time to research the company you work for, I again know that many other people don't and all they know is what they are told in training.

While I agree the vacation packages are inexpensive and could save customers some money, I just dont believe in the package or the company after the research that I did. I am sure that is why my sales went way down. How do you convince people to buy something that you don't even believe in? I also agree with you that often it is the telemarketer that is presenting the information in a shady way. However, I do feel that with this company, there is something shady going on at a higher level.

After my original posting, I did resign from my position at Fairfield. I will be unemployed until Fall. I would gladly push carts or serve fries or wait tables or fold tshirts at any old store in the mall for $6/hour. Unfortunely, it is impossible to get an interview for any entry level position like that with my degree. It isn't just me. I have several other friends who are in the same boat. I don't really understand why it matters if I am willing to work and do my best, but that is okay.

I have researched other companies on this site as well. Past employers,my husband's employer, other people I do business with, etc. I was shocked to find NO other company I have worked for even listed on this site. Not one single complaint. That is something to take pride in. Honesty and integtrity are more important to me than my paycheck. Life isn't about how much money you make in a career. Sure, money is nice. But there are other things that are more important to me. I know for a fact there are a ton of people at Fairfield that make more money than I will ever make in my chosen career path. Many of them will double what I will make at the peak of my career. And that is great for them. I just do not want to be associated with that company any longer.

For those who get those wonderful phone calls, hey you probably will save some money, depending on the location you elect to travel to. You just have to decide if it is worth it to you and your family. If you are interested in time share, then go for it. If you are looking for a cheap way to take your family somewhere, go for it. If price doesn't matter to you but quality does, then maybe you should pass.

If you look at the different rip off reports in the fairfield category, you will see that a vast majority of the different reports are made from the timeshare part of the company. there are approximately 60 rip off reports all together for the company. If you look back at the year of the very first one, it is 2002. if you consider there are only 60 reports made the past 4 years, i'd say that says a lot about the company. As far as my job goes, there are only a hand full of reports made of the origional vacation packages that were bought.

My job is to sell the vaction packages. People that are excited about the package and the details of the package, those are the people who do travel a lot and know that no matter what hotel they are staying aat, they are still getting a good deal. Especially with the value of the package itself with all of the gifts and everything that is thrown in. So, as far as my job goes, integrity isn't the question. I think that the job that I am doing is honest, and I am good at what I do. I think the question should be... Am I making more money than YOU? probably.

Melissa, I congratulate you for being willing to come forward in honesty and admit the truth. As you can see from this website, there are a lot of dissatisfied customers at Fairfiel who have been deceived and had their money stolen from them by this deceitful company. Obviously by the tone of Erin's response, she would do anything to make her living. We don't all have a conscience.

I too have been in sales, and know, if you don't beleive in your product or company, it doesn't work, especially if you have integrity. Integrity is not a characteristic that is in abundance at Fairfield. I only hope that this company is closed down soon by the many lawsuits it is facing.

Current employee satisfied with Company

#23UPDATE Employee

Mon, July 03, 2006

As a current employee of fairfield, I too went through the same training, and have been with the company for almost a year now. I too, went into the training class thinking this was the greatest company around. I think that it is a good deal, and that people that are sitting around at home with nothing to do should answer the phones, because most of us, the good sales representatives, will make it worth their while. for those of us who are good at what we do, make the packages good for the customer and to meet the customer's needs.

I do understand that any telemarketing business can be shady, and it's just the sales people who present it as shady. For those of us who know what the company is about, we ar the ones that are selling the packages and making the money that they say that you will make when you are hired. If I remember correctly, melissa, you did well your first few weeks on the phone, and then you went down hill from there. I don't appreciate it when you basically put down the whole team and sales floor saying that we weren't smart enough too look at rip off reports.

I, Like few others that work there, care about what they are selling, and like you would also like to make an honest living. Like you, I am doing what I can how I can. My opinion? i think that you are being a hypocrite, saying that you are only there becuase you are stuck. you could be a cart pusher like all of the other "overqualified" citizens in springfield. Good luck to you and congratulations on quitting, good for you. Good luck on your honest living with the kids.
