I walk in to the store to shop. I had a small diaperbag on my arm with my 7 month old and my 5 year old. When I was stopped by the mananger and she said that I needed to take my money out of the bag and leave it at the desk. I asked why did I need to do that and she said because blacks steal when they come in with bags.

I stepped back and said just because I am black you think I came in to steal. She said yes and if you don"t like my rule you can shop at another store. So me and my kids left and will never shop their again.

I think something should be done. Just because you are black does not mean you come in to store to steal. I think the owers should know what's going on in their bogalusa store they will lose a lot of customers with that rule because all of my family and friends will hear about this.

Do one other thing first... I would do first is to find an African-American private investigator and tell him what happened

I agree with Tom, but if you do that now you are giving the store advanced warning. There is a first step.

What I would do first is to find an African-American private investigator and tell him what happened. Then let him get a female with a LARGE bag of some kind. I would assume an investigator would have the needed recording equipment, etc.

They need to go into the store when this individual is present and hopefully the fun will begin. Once you have it on tape, then you go to the store -AND- the media.

One other thought - once you get the evidence, take it to the Afican-American clergy in your area. Let the word get out!

I'm sorry I can't do more personally. I wish you only the best of luck in this matter.

You did the right thing by leaving

You did the right thing by leaving. I cannot bellieve how incredibly stupid (store manager) people can be. For some peace of mind I would send a complaint, you can make in anonymous if you want, to Family Dollar Store. Here is the website to contact them:

I am not African-American but if I saw that happen to someone I would have walked out over such outrageous treatment.

Sounds like to me that you could have a lawsuit

I would talk to someone about seeing if you have

a racial discrimination lawsuit against them.
