Complaint Review: Family Dollar Stores

Family Dollar Stores Ripoff Spits in the face of employees with disabilities and thumbs nose at the Americans With Disabilities Act Akron Ohio

Family Dollar has refused to allow a long term employee who has a disability to periodically use a stool while running the cash register. The disability is well supported by medical documentation.

As a result, a complaint was filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. After investigation, EEO found that FD was guilty of discrimination based on guidelines under the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Family Dollar offered a settlement only under the condition that the charge and subsequent findings be erased - thereby showing no evidence of them ever having discriminated. EEO cannot (and should not) retract their findings. The employee, who has been off work for a year, has no choice at this point but to hire an attorney and file a suit in court.

Although this occcurred in Akron, Ohio, the home office of Family Dollar in Charlotte, NC called all of the shots. They had an opportunity to right this wrong - but rather, chose to attempt to perpetuate the myth that they do not discriminate against americans with disabilities by agreeing to settle only if the record is erased.
