I entered in the famous poets society contest. I than recieved a letter in the mail stating that i had won and that they needed me to come to florida. They wanted me to pay i think about $450.00 dollars. I took off of work to go but something had come up. I was then told that my poem would be published in a book, and that i was going to recieve a plack, and some other prizes. I have yet to see any of them. I was even told that i was going to get the book that had my poems published in them i have yet to get that either.

You can get the book and the plaque. You don't need any talent. All it takes is your money.

Everybody wins at the vanity press. Everybody has the best poem or story they have ever seen. They send out a letter to everyone and tell them that.

You are encouraged to buy a $10 book for $50. It has all the poems for the suckers, I mean writers, in it.

The plaque is worth another $15. Its cheap wood with a glue-on gold panel that has your name stamped on it. The plaque should run you another $70 or so.

Your poem could start with There once was a lady from Nantucket. She sat on a cucumber and proceeded to. Well, you get the idea. Anything you send them is the bestest, most valuable, most talented work they have ever seen.

And, they'll keep telling you that, as long as you keep on sending more money.

You know, none of this means that your poetry isn't good. It only means that you are involved with a company who is out to cheat you. Find people who appreciate your work, who aren't out to try to make a buck off you.
