I opened a charge account with Spiegel in November of 2000. I always paid my bill on time, and more than the minimum amount due. I received two or three credit increases.

The beginning of February of this year(2003) I called FCNB to request a $500 increase. I was told that I should hear from them within 7-10 business days. On or about 2/19/03 I received a letter with two courtesy checks worth up to $1000. I put half in my checking account on 2/25. On 3/10 I put in some more. Wrote out checks for bills and dentist.

I called my bank when I received a notice of overdraft. This was on or about 3/14. They told me that the check (issued from FCNB had been returned. I then called FCNB and was told that they would no longer be accepting Speigel cards, they didn't pay their bill. I was also told that any courtesy check that hadn't cleared as of 3/11 would not be honored. Late fees, returned check fees, and over the limit fees on 3 accounts cost over $100. Bank fees on each "bad" check were $16.00 each.

In addition to the 3 accounts were checks written for groceries and a doctor's visit. Now, I am going to receive a late fee on my FNCB of $35.00!? Do we really have to pay interest on these accounts that were closed with absolutely no notice? And to be told that Speigel didn't pay their bill?

I kept looking in the paper and listening to the news that Speigel had declared bankruptcy. I DO NOT LIKE GETTING SCREWED WTH MY PANTS ON! I'm not so sure I will pay any more interest, maybe not even the principal
