Coverage was purchased when we bought a 5 year old home. Home warranty contract we received looked fairly comprehensive. We wanted to make sure the well pump and hot tub were covered and it looked like they were. But we were wrong.

80 days later (too late to upgrade)the hottub won't get hot and one of the skylights that serves the same function as an attic fan(which is covered)won't open. FNHW tells me we have Standard coverage so hottubs are not covered and that skylights are never covered. There is no attic and the skylight is thermostatically controlled opening automatically when it gets too hot. The only mention of skylights I could find anywhere in the contract was under "limited roof leak repair option" excluding leaking skylights. This skylight is not leaking, it won't let the heat out like it is supposed to...like an attic fan.

Advice: DON'T buy the Standard Coverage unless you expect the covered items to break and you can wait to have them fixed and you realize there are a lot of things not included. Apparently hottubs (and refrigerators, leaky roofs, AC, and well pumps) are only covered if you get Comprehensive coverage that is listed on the contract as if that is what you have. Kind of hard to know if you have bought the coverage you asked for.

Maybe buy the Comprehensive coverage, but expect many exclusions and slow service.
Not sure if other brands of home warranty are any better.

Not the protection you might think.
