I was 19 when I was offered a chance to travel the country with people similar to my age. I would be selling magazine subscriptions and was told I would make 500 weekly, pending sales of course.I decided to give it a try and was taken to a motel room where 3 other females my age were sitting on the beds drinking and smoking pot. This didn't discourage me because I was still in my party phase as well.

The next morning, we were awoken early and divided into groups of.My first day was actually fun. I was in my own city and getting meet someone new at every door. We left Austin a couple of days later and began a cross country adventure which consisted of staying in a very cheap, & often unsafe, motel in every city we stopped to work in.

Working typically meant getting dropped off in a random neighborhood, rain or shine, and being picked up 4-6 hours later. Whether I sold 2 or 12, I would only receive $20 that evening and most of it went to food and drinks. I NEVER got a day off. Even when I was sick, I was told I still had to go out to knock doors.

At a motel in Florida, my door was left unlocked by a roommate and a man snuck in and raped me. The experience was disgusting and as soon he was gone I ran to every door and banged. I ran to Belo's door and he opened the door. I told him through my tears what had just occurred and he talked me into returning my room, locking the door, and told me we would talk more in the morning. I went back to my room and dialed 911. The police came, took me to the hospital to attain evidence and I filed a complete report with them. They took me back to the motel and said they would contact me the next day.

As soon as Belo found out, he told everyone to pack their stuff because we were leaving the city. And he told me I could either come or I could stay there with nothing. I was too afraid to be alone so I went with him and believe it or not he made me work that day.

Although i didn't work. I found a laundry room at an apt complex and just sat in there and cried for 6 hours. When it was time be picked up, I was screamed at for not getting any sales. When Belo found this out he displayed such anger that I became terrified and asked him to send me home and he refused.

I got a hold of a family member and they paid for a bus ticket. Belo wouldn't take  me to the bus station so I had to convince a car handler to sneak away & take me that night.

That was 10 years ago and I am STILL traumatized.
