Fift Third Bank is a Ripp off. I had overdraft protection on my account. some how it was overdrawn by $1.45 they charged $6.00 a day fee on day 53 i attemped to veiw my balance at an ATM and it refused to show the Balance so I went into a Branch and was told the fees had accumulated to $624.00 .I told them to close the account.I paid the $1.45 only. Now i recently get a statment from nationwide collection agency the balance is over $2000.00 and climing on a closed account and now there are collection fees. imagine that! It could continue to increase but i refuse to pay. Please dount open your account with them it will not be safe. chicagoan

Yvette, Handling the NSF prior to the 53rd day would have been better!

Yvette,

I have to ask, why would you let the account be overdrawn for 53 days? And for only $1.45? And $624 at $6/day is 104 days overdrawn! Why would you just ignore this OD situation?

The bad part is that you will be in Chex Systems and will not be able to open another account.

Closing an account does not get rid of the fees you agreed to. The fees from the day you went NSF until the day you closed the account are collectable, nothing more.

It is illegal for a collection agency to charge you collection fees. Collection agencies are paid only by the person/business who hired them.

You need to demand validation from the collection agency with a full itemization of charges.
