After falling behind on our installment loan due to my M.S. illness my wife informed the bank that we would be a little behind on making our payments. Trying to work with the bank we let them know of our situation and they said they would work with us. That's when they started calling our home at least six times a day, even after telling them numerous times that we had talked to someone about our situation.

February, 16 our van was reposessed, on February, 17, I drove two and a half hours to the nearest fifth third bank office in Effingham, Il. and paid our loan not only current, but $900.00 ahead. This was done before the 2:00 p.m. deadline. My wife informed a gentleman in the Ohio branch of this and he said that it needed to be paid before 2:00 p.m. Ohio time. {WHAT A BUNCH OF CROCK}.

So if we wanted to locate our van we would have to call back on tuesday, the day after presidents day to see if they could locate our vehicle. We were not given any information by the repo co. as to where our vehicle might be taken. We will be filing a stolen vehicle report, contacting the attorney generals office, and the better business bureau.

They will not work with you, they will take your money gladly for a vehicle that I do not even have. I am paying insurance and I have payed for the license plates on the vehicle. Ever since my payments were made current and beyond, the constant harrassing phone calls have stopped, but when we try to get some answers out of these people, they know nothing.

Avoid doing business with this facility at all costs. There are plenty of other banks that will do business with you and treat you like a person deserves to be treated.

Did you get your van back?

When a situation like this occurs you need to deal with specific payment agreements rather than vague "work with you". In other words, you say "I can pay X amount on X date, that's the best that I can do" and get them to agree to it, preferably in writing. Record all your phone calls with them as well.

If they aren't accepting the payment arrangement you can offer, then assume that they will repo the car. Or at least try to. Except possibly in Texas, it is legal to hide your car from the repo man or lock it up in a garage. When you expect to catch up the payments soon, don't let it get repo'd. It will cost you more to get it back.

It was a holiday weekend so it is not unreasonable that you couldn't get the van back right away. They should not have been demanding such immediate payment though. In most cases the law gives you about two weeks to pay up before you'll lose the car for good.

There are not plenty of bank that will treat you normally if you are LATE ON YOUR PAYMENT. If you were late on your payment, and your car was repo'd, it isn't the bank's fault, it's yours!

It doesn't matter who the bank is, your vehicle will get repo'd if you are seriously behind on your payments. The banks don't really care what the reason for the deliquency is, they just want their money.
