I've been taking my 2004 Corolla in for service at Findlay Toyota for many years.

I am a middle aged single woman with no mechanical sense so I guess I am the typical "easy mark."

I recently brought my car in for a routine oil change (at the usual cost of $89 which I have since found out is double the going rate). At that time, they "discovered" that I needed a new water pump because of a leak which would cost $500.  Also, I needed an allignment which would cost me an additional $900.

I couldn't afford to cover these costs at the time so I took the car home without having it fixxed.

When I told my sister and brother-in-law about these costs they were outraged.  My sister then contacted 4 different mechanics in my area who all quoted the price of an oil change at $39.  They also quoted the cost of replacing a water pump at around $280, parts and labor.

The alighnment cost of $900 is way off according to my brother-in-law but I didn't ask the other mechanics about their going rate.

I then took my car to one of these mechanics for a new water pump. He completely checked my car and found nothing wrong, I did not need a new water pump at all! The mechanic didn't even charge me for his time! (Obviouslly, this will be my new mechanic from now on.)

I had a IM message with a represntative at Toyota about all this. He said the manager would call immediately but no one ever contacted me about this matter.

Findlay Toyota totally conned me and took advantage of me.

Never, ever take your car to ANY dealership for routine maintenance or repair. See that??? NEVER! The FRAUD and DECEPTION which is extant on the sales floor has flown into the shop like raw sewage on a down hill street and that's a FACT! Ask around and find a credible independent mechanic. This is NOT Walmart, a tire store or somebody who works out of his house. Typically, an independent mechanic owns his own shop and the mechanics there are very experienced. You will receive much better customer service, fair prices without typical dealership PRICE GOUGING and mechanics who actually know what they are doing. I urge you to do this now. Ask around and find such a shop and patronize them. Don't ever again take your car to a dealership for anything! PLEASE don't ignore this advice!!!
