the interest rates are unreal! I ordered a cocktail and end table set almost 2 years ago and i am still paying for it!

not to mention that the merchandise was crap. they have sent me numerous letters claiming that i have been excessively late on payments, and in turn they charge me $10, $15, sometimes $20 late fees.

I guess it's a good thing they are going bankrupt.

Fingerhut once served a purpose....

A while back in my life, while I was on welfare, I frequently purchased from the Fingerhut catalogues when I couldn't afford to pay full price, up front, for things I wished to have - even if they weren't the best quality and the purchases were charged high interest rates. I learned sometime later that Fingerhut was a useful (if not a rather expensive) way of building credit as well.

Recently (in the last 18 months), I went to their website and saw something that I wished to purchase. Although I could afford to pay for the item in full, up front, I chose to apply for the Fingerhut Credit Card (this was before their own financial woes) but was turned down for credit with their company because of my "lack of revolving credit" and "negative marks" on my credit report.

I am gainfully employed now (and have been for many years) making a fairly decent wage.

At the time of my application for credit with Fingerhut, I had one department store credit card (which I also had obtained while I was on welfare so many years ago) that I used fairly regularly and paid the balance in full within 30 days of purchase, and two nationally known credit cards that I use pretty regularly but with manageable monthly balances (in other words, the balance due is not massive-I can pay them off if I wish, but choose to keep a balance due for the revolving credit benefit).

The one black mark I have on my credit report is NOTHING in comparison to the marks I had when I was on welfare (and the ONLY black mark I have now is in litigation because it isn't even a result of my doing - it was my father's hospital bill that I refused to take over after he passed away, when they started sending it in my name; but that is another Rip-Off Report of its own).

Just thought I would post a response to point out the irony. I can get credit/make purchases on credit with Fingerhut when I barely have two cents to rub together, but can't when I am making a comfortable living... strange, huh?
