Fingerhut Double Charge -- Collection and Active at the same time Van Nuys California Nationwide
I opened an account with Fingerhut; lost my job some four or so years later so my account fell behind. I contacted them, and of course they said they understood but then the calls began. I was getting calls from non-English speaking persons who could not be understood and ultimately I stopped answering their calls. I wrote them letters explaining my situation and when I was able started making payments oF $100 per month. My balance when I started was $2,600. I have made payments in excess of $2,000 but now they have decided that my account is current, but I still have late fees of $15 to $30 a month but my balance is still over $2,000. I reported them to the Better Business Bureau and they were no help. I cannot afford for my credit score to go down so I feel I'm being abused by Fingerhut's credit program. I finally got them to report my account as making payments every 30 days but it shows closed; so if the account is closed no interest is accruing, no late fees because it's a charged off account. But yet, now they send me both collection notices and normal billing statements - I keep telling them they can't have it both ways but they must not speak English or are illiterate because no one seems to quite get it.
