My name is Shawn Russell. I have never opened an account or ever signed any agreement with Fingerhut. My wife had a fingerhut account before we were married. We were not married at the time the account was opened/ or active. But my credit report shows that I owe Fingerhut almost $2,000. Not only does this show up once - but fingerhut sold it to a collection agency and now it is on there twice.

It is impossible to talk with anyone from this company. I have followed the directions on the automated system - but have had no luck. I have faxed letters stating that I am trying to purchase a home and cannot do so until the matter is settled but have had no reply. This is the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with.

I have done business with them in the past and would never do business with them again. I bought some merchandise from this company in the past. When the bill came it was in my mother's name instead of mine . I brought it to thier attention and told them the wrong name was on the bill. I paid the bill but decided never to do business with them again

You need to send the original creditor a letter, certified mail, return receipt requested, disputing the amount on your credit report. Do the same thing with the collection agency. Then copy everything, including certified receipts and send it to the credit bureaus who show either or both debts, disputing it on your credit as well. Then send copies of the entire thing along to the FTC. Good luck.

contact all 3 credit bureaus and dispute the 2 reports off your credit report.

best case, the companies reporting it will have to resond within 5 days or it must be removed from your report. worst case, the debt is valid but you will be able to contact them and settle the account...

good luck
