I received a catolog in the mail with pre-approved credit on it with my name and current address. The catalog also say expires on 12/31/08. And when I went to use the credit account they said I was already approved for. I was denied. They would not honor the promised pre- approval offer. To me that is false advertising and fraud. I asked them why. They said cause it was printed 6 months ago. That my credit has a problem and is no longer eligable for the already pre-approverd credit. How can they denie me this when it was already promised to me.

Be glad you did not get "pre-approved". Finger Hut is over priced garbage.
Also not to get credit with them, means you are in bad credit range. I mean really bad range.
Pay down your debt. Get a store credit card, like Target, Pennies or Kohls.

"Pre-approved" Credit

I have to say, as an employee of Fingerhut, I'm very sorry to hear about your denied credit application.
If you are willing to apply again, I can make the following suggestions.
1.)Be sure that all of your information is current:Name, address, home phone number.
2.)Review the terms and conditions of the account, and make sure that you understand them. If you have any questions you can call our customer service department Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m Central Standard Time.
3.)You may want to review/correct credit information with your local Credit Bureau.
4.) You should have recieved a letter from the credit department at Fingerhut giving you the specific reasons your application was denied. This letter can assist you in whatever changes/updates you need to make to your credit information.
5.)Request to speak with our credit department. We have credit specialist that can assist you, and give you alternatives in the application process. You would need to make sure you call during regular business hours 9am to 5pm Mon-Fri to speak with a specialist from the credit department. But, our customer service reps are there until evening.
One thing to keep in mind also is that customer service reps do not have access to customer's and applicants individual credit information, this is confidential information, and you are best to speak with one of our credit department specialists.
Again, I am sorry about the denied credit application. "Pre-Approved" credit does not guarantee a line of credit, it means that you are approved to apply. Pesonally, I find the term "Pre-Approved" to be confusing and repugnant, and I wish it were not used..but than, I only work there..I don't make the rules. Good luck, and I hope we hear from you soon.

"pre-approved" is not APPROVED

In case you have not figured out you have credit problems. I take it that is how you wanted to buy your Christmas? You will pay three times the amount even if they gave it to you, however that is a side note.

Those offers are thrown out a dime a dozen, that is why it is called aa "PRE_APPROVED" offer. It is not a guarantee by any stretch and is certainly not fraud! Once you call on these types of offers, they will then check your credit and if your credit is poor then they will turn you down. I have to say if Fingerhut turned you down then that tells me a great deal. Stay away from these places. Pay cash, nothing is out there you need bad enough that cash won't buy. Do not fall into the credit card trap. You will end up behind on payments and then you will be filing a report because they are calling you or turning you over to a credit agency. Nest thing you know you will be saying that is a ripoff too. Take them turning you down as a blessing because you do not need credit from Fingerhut. Go to Walmart and check prices if you do not believe me. The prices they charge is the ripoff!

When I stopped playing the credit game it was the best thing I did and now I have the cash to buy things because I have no credit card bills or car notes to pay. It is amazing how that works. No ripoff here. This is a blessing ,you just haven't figured that out yet.
