I took my car to Firestone yesterday for a standard oil change, and I left my car for the appointment. An hour after drop off I received a call from a technician stating I had a slash in one of my tires but they believe it's repairable.

I reluctantly agreed with a repair but 30 minutes later received a voicemail that the tire was irreparable and I would need a NEW tire. Patrick told me the tire would require 2 patches due to two areas compromising the tire and this creates a rough surface inside so they aren't able to do repairs this way. Again, I left the car so Patrick said it was needed, and I had no choice.

Upon arriving to pick up my car, I requested the second technician to show me the damaged tire, where and how it could not be repaired. Chris stated firmly that he heard about the repair but he didn't work on my car himself. (defensive undertone before I even had a look at the tire). He showed me a pinhole that was barely visible in the middle tread. The tire had 60% tread and was a snow tire.

I explained that I knew I would need all weather tires in 90 days but it doesn't make sense to buy 1 tire unnecessarily. Chris agreed and called a second technician named Don in to find a second hole they claimed made the tire not qualify for repair. After a full inspection there was NOTHING wrong with this tire. Don said he saw a second pinhole but now he doesn't see it. Both tecnicians began to deny a real need to a tire purchase. I was furious! Had I not asked to see the damaged tire, this place was trying to sell me a tire without cause! I told them I simply need the tire repaired... It's a good tire. They nervously agreed to put a patch in and took the new tire off. Both technicians proclaimed they didn't work on my car, however one of them DID because his name was on my receipt.

To anyone who goes to Firestone... BEWARE! Every time I've taken my car for oil change, they find something else that is alarming and needs replaced or repaired. I've since found an independent mechanic who use to work for the company. He says they are commission and sell unnecessarily to meet a quota. So if you go to the franchise store, know that you could be Up sold.

Hello,

My name is Tom and I am from the Firestone Complete Auto Care Corporate Offices. I have read through your concerns and would like to apologize for any misdiagnosis made. It is always important that the customer is kept completely informed on the status of their vehicle. Many times the best way to make a repair recommendation is by having the customer come physically look at the damaged part in question.

In this case, a dunk  tank is typically used to show where the leak is coming from. I apologize that this was not performed. Please message me at social@bfrc.com with your review posted here and the invoice number from service. If you could include the exact location you visited it would be greatly appreciated. This way we can get management involved to help make things right and prevent this in the future.
