I felt the need to write this letter do to the service I had received at the Firestone located in Marietta. In April 2008 I took my car in to have the air checked seeing as it was not working correctly. After an hour and a half I was told that there might be a leak due to the freon not holding in the lines. I stood in the garage with the workers and was told the details. They said for me to come back if the air went out once again. Not 20 minutes after I left the air went out. I did not have time to go back and sit for another hour and a half seeing as I have a full time job that I can not miss. I was charged a total of $165.00 for the service that did absolutley nothing! I took my vehicle to a different shop and the air was fixed that day. I was charged half the amount I paid at Firestone and had air that worked! I was told at the second shop that there are no leaks and there was no freon even put into the car. They said the problem was that the lines were empty. I know that I am female walking in to a Firestone and they normally try to get you seeing as you have no idea what is going on with your vehicle but I don't appreciate it. I will never return to another shop again when I have car issues. I do not believe that it was right for them to charge me $165.00 to fix nothing. I would like to hear what your opion is with this matter.

I also had a problem with Firestone recently. I bought tires from them in the Metro Atlanta area and they have been great. The problem started when we took our other car in for diagnosis as the A/C was not blowing cold at times. We left the luxury car with them for several hours as they stated that they were going to perform an in-depth diagnostic test. After our test was completed, we were informed that there was some bad news. Our car, which only has 50,000 miles on it, needed a new compressor and entire new system. The total cost for these repairs was around $2,241! $500 of the repair was for the labor and the rest was for the parts. I located OEM parts from discountacparts.com for a total of $600. This is less than half the price of Firestone's questionable parts. The service manager was confident that our compressor on our European car would not last another month. The car's A/C now blew hot constantly after the so-called diagnostic test. We were also informed that this location had been replacing A/Cs constantly this summer due to the hotter temperatures. Do they think that I am stupid enough to think that an A/C compressor that can handle nearly 1,000 degrees of heat will be harmed by an extra 10 degrees of air temperature? It sounded like they were bragging about all of the unnecessary repairs that they had performed at the expense of the struggling working class.

Firestone refused to use any parts that we provided, so we got a second opinion from Car Spa. We were informed that we only need to recharge our A/C, as it was nearly empty! It appears that Firestone had failed to recharge our A/C system after evacuating all of the freon. They had no business evacuating the freon to begin with nor did they have our permission to do so. Our A/C was recharged for $80 by Car Spa and now works perfectly. I can't believe that we considered spending over $2,000 and wondering how we would be able to afford this for two whole months! This was not a simple mistake as I am a licensed property adjuster who is very familiar with how cars work. I verified that the compressor and condenser fan were working perfectly and that there were no leaks in the A/C system. Where did the freon go then? The answer is obvious. Do not trust these people. It is far worth paying slightly more at a dealership to have your vehicle serviced. The difference in cost is much cheaper than most people think and the service is usually honest and reasonable. Stay away from these con artists and thieves and you will save much more money in the long run and avoid their repair quotas.
