I've been with First American Home Buyers Protection for over eight years. I called them on July 13th, because my pool heater was not turning on. They dispatched a pool repair company to come and inspect the heater. The technician came on July 18th, inspected the unit and informed us that he needed to order some parts that were not functioning properly and get authorization from AHA.

Two days later I heard that my claim was denied because supposedly the heater and the gas connections/valves were not installed properly and that constitute pre-existing condition. I have had Southern California Gas Company turn on my heater for the last 8 years and they had never mentioned anything about incorrect installation.

I have been paying for this coverage for 8 years and the one time I have a claim they deny it for a reason that doesn't make sense. I thought I was alone until I read all the other posts. This company needs to be taught a lesson and learn that they can not cheat their way out of paying for valid claims. Since I live in Southern California I intend to file a lawsuit in small claims Court.

Well I have a new pool heater and First American even called to make sure the installation went smoothly and I was happy.

All I can say is don't give up ...

I guess being vocal works sometimes. After filing the RipOff report, I went to the First American's website and sent a detailed description of my complaint, thinking it would be ignored. But it made me feel good. The very next day I was contacted by someone who said she was the VP's assistant and wanted to know what the problem was. I explained the issue and she said she will look into it. 3 days later she called again and told me she's ordering a second opinion. The second technician (different company) came in last week and found nothing wrong with the installation of my pool heater, he called and recommended a new unit be installed and they authorized the new unit. I should be getting it installed by next week. I would keep you updated.
