I called this company on 3/29/07, because one of my 3-speed ceiling fans was making a noise and operating only on High. I asked if I had ceiling fan coverage, and Omar said I did. They even offered to send a repairman out the same day. I asked that they send him or her out on 4/2, as I needed to be off work that day anyway. They agreed and said I'd pay a $65 service charge.

On 4/2 the service technician arrived promptly and examined the fan. The motor was burning up, and the only solution was replacing the fan. He called First American to get approval for replacing the fan. It was denied because I don't have ceiling fan coverage. I called them to confirm, and was told that I never had ceiling fan coverage. They did apologize and waive the $65 fee, but I had to pay $130 for a fan that I felt First American should have covered. If I had no coverage, Omar should have told me right away, so I could make a more-informed decision.

The service tech said that he runs into this situation (people being told they have coverage they don't) at least 3 times a week when he deals with First American customers.

I filed a complaint with First American and told them I won't be renewing the warranty, which came with the house.
