First Choice Emergency Room First Choice ER Unreasonable billing, no disputes accepted, straight to collections Allen Texas
Holidays 2015, regular doctors closed, I was quite sick, turned out to be Pneumonia.
Went to First Choice ER. I was in an out in less than an hour. They took my vitals and performed a chest X-Ray. Confirmed pneumonia and gave me prescription for an antibiotic.
First Choice says they are an ER and follow ER billing accepted by all insurance. I got the bill, $2100 total with my portion being $1500. Yet my insurance plan is supposed to limit my ER visit cost to $150.
In checking with insurance (Aetna) they showed there was an extra fee for 'emergency services' for $1357 that Aetna said used a code that woulbe be 'included in the overall fee of another procedure or is not usually done at the same time as another procedure on this day.'
So I called First Choice ER and explained that they must have filed incorrectly. the billing lady said thanks and that the dispute will take 60 days to process before I hear their decision/view.
Never heard another word. Never received another bill or other notice.
Almost exactly one year to the day of that call I have received a notice from a collections firm. Now going through this mess and unable to get a response from First Choice so far. I also need to check credit scores to be sure nothing appearing there.
I highly suggest people to avoid this firm as their business practices appear to be unethical.
