In 2000 I opened a first consumer card. I fell behind on the payments due to a sickness that put me on disability. I notified FCNB and was advised to pay off the credit card to the $500 limit so that i could avoid over limit fees. which i did. I then paid of the card up to $200, which i then made arrangments obligating me to pay $50 a month. I did so. The next month i went to pay the $50 on-line as usual only to find that teh website was closed. I called the number on the card and was referred to the website to pay the bill. Back and forth to no avail. I then wrote a letter to the address on the back of the card asking them to advise on how to go about paying my bill. I was scared to death of late fees..leading to the over limit fees. Again, nothing. Ok, so 1 year later..i get a bill from the Bank of Omaha telling me I owe $1100!!! to FCNB. I called and spoke to a really nice guy, whom i explained my situation to and he explained to me that this is a huge problem because they also could not get in contact with FCNB. He said he would try to remove the over limit and late fees. Never herd from him again, I called back and spoke to a really nasty woman who told me that tehre is no way that the fees could accomulate like that on their own. I then told her that I needed her to send me a detailed print of my bill. She said that they were only able to go back 2 months. I told her I needed a detailed bill from the first late fee. She couldnt provide it. I explained that I was willing to pay my $200 and i needed a letter saying that this account was paid in full. She couldnt comply, because I owed $1100 So I told her I wouldn't pay. Now, I have received a letter from Midland Credit Managment with a new total of $1,224.98. When I explained the whole saga to the rep on teh phone, I was told that my account would be sent to a lawyer if i didnt pay. I am so stressed! I would like to sue fcnb on the stress alone. but ..oopps! they no longer exsists. What do I do??!!! Can they really sue me for money i do not owe? Like others It was so longer ago tat I threw away the paper work.
