When I was 16 years old, too young to open a credit account, someone opened an account with Newport News with my name, birth date, and social security number. Three years later I get a bill in the mail from a creditor saying I owe almost $400 for a Newport News account I never opened.

I had never recieved any bills, any merchandise, or even the credit card in the mail (the address on the account was my father's). I call FCNB, went through the long and arduous process of protesting and investigating the account, then got a letter in the mail saying that the account was closed, it was fraudulent, sorry for the inconvenience. This was in December 2001. A year later I got a copy of my credit report and it was still there! I called FCNB again, they said so sorry, they would take care of it.

In November 2003, I got another copy of my report, and guess what: it was still there, open. I then get a call from a new creditor saying that I owe this money. They said they bought the account a year and a half ago. I asked them how can they buy an account that was fraudulent and was then closed? They said so sorry, they would take care of it on their half.

When will they stop being sorry and take care of this problem, and clear up my credit report (which by the way is preventing me from getting loans and other lines of credit!)?
