Soon after my bankruptcy was discharged, I received an offer from FCNB. I was eager to rebuild my credit and accepted a credit card from FCNB with a limit of $300 and a yearly fee of $65. I had little or no trouble with them for the first year. I forgot that my fee was due and when they charged my account for it, I was charged the over-the-limit fee. Okay, I ate that $35 charge. A couple of months later, my payment was received 2 days late, I was charged a $35 late fee.

This caused me to go over the limit and I was charged a $35 over-the-limit fee. I immediately made payment to get my account up to date and made an additional payment later in the month. I noticed on the next month's statement that the math wasn't adding up. I took the balance minus my payments and they had charged me an additional $35 fee (along with the $70 in fees already accessed)but no where was the fee charge listed. I read the back of the statement carefully, according to them,

I couldn't get charged twice for the same fee within the same month. I called and was routed to a special department, the first man I spoke with had such a heavy accent that I couldn't understand his name. I asked him about my bill. He simply said that I owed the money and even though I had made payments, it wasn't enough. I told him that I wouldn't be making any payments that day because I believed the statement to be incorrect and I started to go over my issues with the bill .

He interrupted me to tell me that he had gone over the bill with me and he wasn't going over it again. Fine, I asked for his supervisor and was promptly hung up. I called back and spoke with a Mrs. Green and when I asked for the prior representative's name, she hung up on me. I finally spoke with a Jane - whom I thanked for not hanging up on me. She gave me a bogus explanation for the charge. I told her that I would be writing a letter of dispute but would make a payment with her.

I wrote my letter of dispute and was sent a letter stating that no adjustment would be made and on the very same day, I received a new statement with the balance adjusted. Huh? Just today, I tried to contact them to settle my balance and I was surprised to find that you can't talk to anyone, it's only a VRU system. I went online and paid the balance off, printing everything showing that I paid. I'd hate for them to resurrect this balance.

I'm glad that they were finally put out of business. They were a disgrace.
