back in 1997 I got a secured credit card from the first national bank of marin (they have since been bought out by Credit one bank). It was secured for 300 dollars and didn't have much credit on it when I got it. I kept it for a few years and made regualr payments on it. In 1999 I decided to close out the account and they told me that the savings would cover the amount on the card.

I didn't hear anything from them until April of this year which is 2007. It has been sold to a collection agency and now a law firm in threatening to sue me if I don't pay. I don't feel I owe anything because they told me that the savings would comer any charges left on the card.

What started out as a bill that was 300 dollars is now almost 1500 dollars.

The statue of limitations has run out in my state and it does not show up on my credit report, and still they say they will take me to court. If anyone knows of something I can do to get them off my back I would appreciate it.
