My brother rented his beach condo on a weekly basis and had signed up to accept credit cards with First National Merchant Solutions at the suggestion of his local bank.  He was killed in an accident and this company continued to deduct a monthly fee for two additional months after notification and finally an early termination fee of $250 from his account.

While as somone noted that termination fees are normal, it seems abit questionable when someone is dead.   I do not have a copy of his contract.  I do have a small business and a credit card processing service of my own and they are good in all respects. I have never had anything to complain about.

In addition, from all that I have read this company seems to be marketing a package to small businesses (who probably have never had a credit card service  before) that is inappropriate for a small business.  Or not carefully explained.   I notice that right before my brother died additional fees were added to his account - an increased monthly fee (by a great percentage) and a fee for getting a monthly paper statement.

While they might not be illegal they should try to run a honest, forthright and careful business with some sort of customer service.  I have not received a response to any of my communications except one email.  It said my question about a refund was "forwarded to the president".   What an unusual response.

How to get your money back

#2

Thu, September 17, 2009

As a former employee of this company I can tell you that the easiest thing to do is to call them back again.  The customer service department will give you a different answer every time.  You may need to make several calls but eventually you will get someone who actually cares and understands this situation.

If additional phone calls do not get you anywhere file a complaint with the Attorney Generals Office in Nebraska.  First National will not want to have an investigation conducted and will immediately refund all monies.

Good luck to you and my condolences on the loss of your brother
