Fish Scale Taxidermy -- Owner Kevin he won't give you a last name Takes your money lies and won't give you replica Hewitt Texas
I ordered a replic in Decemberf 2012 from Kevin (owner of fish scale taxidermy). I had to send $163 for him to start my son's replica. At the time I ordered the replica he stated it would be complete in March. I checked with him in March, April and May. Everytime I checked with him he would stay another month. He would say he was sick, his wife was sick, he was on vacation, but don't worry it will be done shortly. He stated he had lots of workers and they send out 30 replicas a week. Finally in July, I get an email from Kevin that the replica is completed. I sent another check for $163.00 to finish paying for the replica. On July 18, 2013 I sent an email to Kevin asking about the timeline to receive the replica. He said he would send me a tracking number. i never received a tracking number or a replica so on August 25 I emailed Kevin asking about my replica. At this time he said he never received my checked. But when I asked him on July 18th, if he was sending me a tracking number he said yes -- which means he had my check. Now he is saying he doesn't. I'm confussed and am now worried that he is going to keep my son's replica. I told him I would pay by credit card and would go home at noon to get my card. I tried for a week to get a hold of Kevin to give him my gift card number. He finally called me on September 12th. He told me he would ship the replica on September 16th and it would take 4 or 5 days to reach me. He also stated he would send me a tracking number. I never received a tracking number.
Red flag - up to this point he was telling me how busy he is and how many employees he has. On Sept. 26 I still didn't receive my replica or shipping information. I sent another email - Kevin replied - had a family emergency will be back in two weeks. At this point, I'm thinking this man is scamming me. His stories keep changing. I started to research on his company and found complaints that he doesn't send the products. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Texas on Sept. 30.
On October 7th I sent another email to Kevin. He responded why did you turn me in. I explained why -- he got irrate with me in his emails. He said he doesn't need to work with people like me and he will send me a full refund on October 9th when he's in the office. He responded to the BBB that he sent me a check. I never received a check. When I replied back to the BBB about not receiving a refund he went off on telling stories that he didn't have to send me a refund (but remember he stated he already sent me a refund earlier) because I canceled the ordered. He also didn't need to refund me any money because it was over 60 days. He said he doesn't have to work with anyone that questions his ligitamacy. I believe that's his game plan. I did call the Mastercard gift card company and cancelled the $163.00 I placed on my card. The card company said if Fish Scale Taxidermy won't approve the refund, I would need to wait until January to get my $163 back. The bank told me they couldn't do anything about my check I issued in December.
At this time I turned him into the Attorney Generals Office of ND and TX. I submitted all of our emails to the Attorney Generals Offices. When they contacted Kevin, he came up with totally different stories than what he posted on the BBB site and what I have in emails and commented that he refunded me $163 on card. Remember he said he sent me a full refund in October and he didn't do anything with my card credit. He is a thief and gets angry when you ask for your product. I did get $163 from the gift card company in January -- I submitted enough emails to show that Kevin is nothing but a lier and poor businessman. It's so sad that there are businessmen in the world that treat their customers poorly and do everything in their power to pocket money without submitting a product. Please save yourself the misery of dealing with such a poor standard in a businessman. Kevin still has $163 of mine, but if he needs to steal, lie and ripoff me over $163, I guess that proves his character.

I have an almost identical problem. In June 2015 I ordered a replica of a bass I caught in Florida and sent in a 50% deposit per contract. Images of the work and description on internet were very nice. I was notified by Fish Scale Taxidermy on 9/5/15 that fish was ready including a photo they sent. (Photo looked great but year and half later a photo is all I have.) I was surprised at the speed and was told it was because they happened to have a blank in stock and did not have to order one. I paid remainder over the phone with a credit card and was told I would be sent a shipping number as soon as the shipper gave them one. We have texted back and forth 34 times since then and emailed several more.
Shipper problems, can you send a photo so we know which is yours, (I sent it twice), health issues, etc. A year and a half since they notified me bass was ready and still no fish. Now no replies to contact attempts. i did file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General for whatever that is worth. I am bginning to wonder if they ever did taxidermy or just found some nice photos, created a web site and lured us in. I should take this to small claims court on principal but the time off work and and effort required make that a situation that you lose even when you win. I jsut want my fish or my money. As the owner put it, I can get one of lesser quality, but at least I will have one. I wish I had seen this before I ordered, it might have save a lot of grief.

Why would I cancel my order when this replic was caught by my 10 year son and all he wanted for Christmas was his fish replica.
I have the emails from Kevin stating he is cancelling my order and giving me full refund because he didn't like me questioning him on when I was going to get my replica. Remember this was going on for months that he kept changing his storie.
Other website state that he doesn't send product either. He wouldn't have given me a dime back becasue he's a thief but my second payment I used a credit card because I saw bad reports about him on different sites on line. -- When I contacted my credit card company and submitted his hateful emails and his emails stating he woudl give me a full refund (remember i made first payment with a check) -- The credit card got my second payment back with the proof that I had that he was a scammer.
I found a different company that does fish replicas I told him my story about Kevin and he acknowledge that he has heard about his business too. The fish replica company I went to said because Kevin is such a bad businessman and couldn't believe he would do this to my son and to keeping my funds. The second company did the replic and did some extras that he didn't charge me for and got the replic to me by Christmas. He sent it without a penny from me upfront. Once I got the product - I sent him the full payment.
Kevin, still hasn't sent back my first payment. There are so many good businesses out there that can do replicas that are honest -- don't but yourself in a bad situation in having to deal with someone that won't deliver and you can't trust. Do your home work and unless you live in Texas where you can take him to court when he doesn't deliver, say yourself the headaches and go to someone else. Kevin will have a high power to answer to someday.

Hello ,my name is Jana Herridge. I am the owner of Fish Scale Taxidermy!
I am not sure where the information you are touting came from, but I have owned this business for many years.
Its a sad time in this world when someone can just post anything they want and it gets viewed as truth. We work hard to produce the higest quality mounts. Post like this can hurt a business when the public reads it without the proper information. For something like this to get posted is very very sad.
I know that other replica companys have and has posed as upset clients on this and other types of public forums to hurt our business. Its a cut throught business. Weed through all of it. Thanks so much and God bless.

He cancelled my ordered and said he would send me a full refund - he still owes me $163. I never asked him to rush my order. I'm a female. His stories will change with every contact I make with him. I have included just a handful of our emails. I have removed my name and email adress per your guidelines. First sign of a good businessman would be that he would have a real email account not a hotmail account. Lesson learned there! I haven't received a full refund like he brought up on his own because I questioned his authenticity. My first payment was made in 2012 with a check. He told the Better Business Bureau he sent me a full refund. He never did. I called the gift card company that I placed the second payment on to cancel that payment. I didn't get that refund until Jan of 2014 because he was fighting the refund and I had to provide all of my emails and all of the correspondence with the Better Business Bureau. If he was a honest businessman he would of sent the check he first promosied and he at the minumim would have returned my money on the second payment to the VISA gift card without me having to file a complaint against him and sending all the backup. Everyone needs to be aware of these practices. Ask yourself wouldn't a good businessman send the product? Wouldn't they send a full refund if they say they would? Just be aware and let you gut tell you the truth here. I will scan all of my documents and send them to Ripoff Report.

This order was cancled due to the way the client handled the turnaround time which is outlined in our policies (8 month turnatound), he placed an order 4 months ago and our turnaround time is at least 8 months. I refunded his deposit via a refund on his credit card that he used for the deposit. This transfer was completed last month and order was cancled. This guy is just upset that I would not rush the fish to him to fit his feelings of what time it takes to do a superior replica.
I will not put a client in front of another client to accomidate a squeeky wheel client that wants a faster turnaround. There were hundredes of other clients ahead of this guy in the book that deserves to be done in order before his. People will be people. Most do not understand what it takes to do a work of art, not just paint shot on a fiberglass fish blank. This is what it is! God bless and not making excuses, just stating the facts.
