Flat Rate Movers LLC My Nightmare Atlanta, Georgia
My husband just got out of the Marine corps and we decided to move to Jackson, TN from Jacksonville, NC. We went on line and started getting quotes and since we didnt have a lot of stuff the quotes were all pretty similar and reasonable. We received one from Flat Rate Movers LLC (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH ATLANTA FLAT RATE MOVERS although if you do a search for Flat rate movers they were who came up with great reviews) That was only a couple hundred lower than the others so we went with them.
Their website has all the major credit card logos and when we spoke to the representative, he took our credit card number and assured us that if we needed to change the card before the move, that would not be a problem.
We were supposed to move on a Saturday, they would drive sunday and deliver monday. They called at 7:30 pm the thursday before saying that they had a mix up and would be there the next morning. Nothing was done to make up for the inconvenience. (side note- my husband spent the night in the ER that night with kidney stones) and we still made it for the movers in time. We gave the driver the CC information that we wanted used for payment and he told us someone from Accounting would be in touch to finalize that information. The price our mover gave us was $200 more than our original quote. funny since we gave them less than what we had itemized for our quote.
We added an additional night of expense and finally made it to TN. Monday came and they were to be there by 11:00 am. we didnt hear anything from anyone so we called and they said, you never paid. You owe us $938 in cash before we will deliver. You were supposed to pay your driver.
Now, how come he didnt ask for that before he loaded my stuff and left? Well, that didnt matter. I was told to stop my B****ing and my husband was told to shut the F*** up and if we didnt pay it would be worse off for my stuff.
We were told to overnight a payment to them in the form of certified funds which we did. We were given a total of 3 different addresses to send it to, all very similar and none of them correct since the payment was undeliverable.
During the past 4 days with this, I have been in an apartment with a 7 yr old with autism, a one year old, a two year old, a husband passing kidney stones and my jolly pregnant self. All the savings for exploring our new home went to buying things like towels, shampoo, sleeping bags, pillows, food, dishes, clean clothes, laundry services etc. and they are resigned to watching the same movies over and over on a lap top.
In all that, they are still refusing to do anything and NOW we are supposed to do a wire transfer for them to get the cash. And then When they have an available truck, they will bring our stuff to TN. Every bit of this has supposedly been our fault for refusing to pay them. Yet they have not one but TWO cards full information and not once did they say this is not an acceptable method of payment.
In addition, they have also begun charging storage so we told them today that would rent a truck of our own and be there tomorrow to pick up our things. The man told us that would be a problem for him cause he had other plans Sunday might be better. So we are being charged storage until HE feels like coming out. Not once have they kept a consistent plan of action so that we can get our stuff. It has been a full 7 days since they took our stuff. They ignore phone calls. And if they DO talk to us they tell us its our fault and how stupid we are for not paying. Say that if we dont pay soon our stuff will suffer.
So, in addition to more than double our quoted price, we still have nothing and looks like we get to spend another $1000 in getting a truck and making another trip with 3 tired, confused, cranky kids in hopes of reclaiming anything we own.
DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY! There are about 3 company names associated with this address so do the research. I thought I had but it wasnt the right company.

I moved from Atlanta and haAuve been calling since July 18th to get my goods to California. It is now August 23rd and they must look at caller ID to send my calls to voicemail. These people lie and are not trustworthy. I am contacting police later this week and reporting goods as stolen.

FLAT-RATE MOVERS LLC is also holding my stuff hostage while making themselves unreachable.
The owner, Alex, was belligerent and yelled at me & hung up on me. The original estimator, "Paul" is not taking his calls anymore. I wonder if this is the same guy as the "Seth" you talked to.
From what I've since learned through other online complaints, they give a low-ball estimate & are very easy and nice during that process. They ask for your credit card for a deposit. They say that the balance is due delivery time. But once they pick your stuff up, they ask for 60% cash up front and when you explain that you already provided a credit card, they act like they don't know what you're talking about.
I have 2 cell-phone #s for them but they just let the calls go to voicemail:
404-583-7872 Alex's cell #1
404-547-1329 Alex's cell #2
I have no idea where the truck is. DOT & police said they can't help me. I'm a single woman just coming out of a painful divorce and my divorce settlement & everything i have in this world is on that
truck. I live in another state and feel completely powerless.
I've already spoken to MoverRescue but all they can do it try and call the movers to see what's up.
The DOT said until 30-45 days has passed, they cannot send the mover a letter.
The BBB just has you report a complaint. They can't get your stuff back.
The police said this is a "civil case" and they can't help me.
The Gwinnett County court said my ONLY recourse is to file a small-claims suit with them.
This is a nightmare.
