Complaint Review: Flat Rate Van Lines

Flat Rate Van Lines moving company set up a move 1 1/2 months ago took down payment and day before the move told me they made a mistake on the pick up location and couldn't do the job they contacted another company and i capitol Heights, Maryland

I set up a move with a company march 11, 2010 and i have a signed quote that includes the pick up and deliver to addresses. I made a deposit via credit card.


I contacted the moving company 4-26-10 to confirm everything and there were no issues they were to pick up between 8-9am 4-28-2010.


At 2:45 pm 4-26-10 they contacted me and said they made a mistake and didn't know that the pick up location was 3 hours from them and that they couldn't do the move. If they do the move it will cost me an additional 570 dollars.


They contacted another company closer to the pick up location and that company is charging 270 dollars more. I feel Flat Rate Van Lines should honor their mistake and make up the difference or make the move for the quoted price.


They will not do so and since so much time has passed i now must make the move with the new company because rent dates are an issue and the move has to occur before May 1, 2010.


This was negligence on their part and i am now not able to effectively research a new moving company or any other possible options due to time constraints. If this company routinely performs like this the public needs to know.
