I paid Flatrate moving $625 to move my belongings out of my old apartment and into storage before my wedding trip June 20th. I paid another $176.50 for the storage space during my trip to Europe. Moving out of storage was an additional $374. The complete move + storage came to :$1275.85 plus tips.

As I came back on July 5th, me and the movers had an appointment to meet outside my new apartment at 2pm, to have my belongings moved (out of storage and) into the new place with me present. The agreement was that IF I was late, coming from the airport, the Super would let the movers in at 2pm.

When I arrived IN TIME, at 2pm June 5th, Flatrate moving had already contacted my Super (that knew to let the movers in if I was running late, and that now thought that this was agreed on too), gotten access to my apartment and quickly thrown in my belongings and were gone a long time ago. The approximate time the movers arrived was 12:30pm, and they THREW my furniture etc into my place, while complaining that they weren't going to get any tips since I wasn't there (way before appointed/agreed upon time!).

When I arrived I found much of my furniture badly scratched, glass and porcelain broken (although the box said GLASS), expensive glass art frames broken, a Japanese lamp broken and worst of all, a very dear and highly personal piece of artwork GONE. I filed a complaint with the company, that knew that I hadn't paid for any additional insurance (what a mistake!!).

For a month they kept my hopes up until I today received their final settlement: $114. The damages & losses are for $2050! I paid a lot for the move, so I felt safe enough that the company was professional and that I shouldn't need any additional insurance.

Please guide me right, and help me make sure that other people are warned that Flatrate Movers is a very unprofessional company. I don't want others to have to go through my disappointment and frustration.

After posting my report on this website I was contacted by FlatRate Moving management. A very professional and pleasant lady at the moving company has turned my bad experience in to a positive one. FlatRate Movers has corrected the issue and I have no more hard feels towards the company. Luckily I was wrong!
