Complaint Review: FLORIDA METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY/CORINTHIAN COLLEGES

Jennifer and fellow Students,

I am very alarmed to learn that you have had such a horrible experience with Everest University. I have several years of experience in College Financial Aid, and if what you are saying is happening, you have several avenues of recourse to pursue.

Everest is the recipient of Federal Student Aid and they have certain obligations to us as Students. They have to be forthcomming in respects to the type of education you will be receiving and if credits will or will not be accepted by other accredited Colleges and Universities throughout the country. We as Students also have recourse to have our Student Loans refunded if we can prove that they School mislead themselves or gave you student loans under preditory circumstances.

Contact the Department of Education (William D. Ford), contact the lenders that hold your loans and let them know what type of business practices this University is participating in, andlast but not least, keep speading the word about this so called "legitimate University". I wish you the Best.

I posted my rip off report on this school today. I am currently pursuing this issue with the school. I don't have the time or energy to explain everything they did wrong but I will say that I was scammed in a big way & I have proof from saved emails. I had never attempted college before signing up for FMU online so I was the perfect victim. I was 23 at the time & had stayed home with my son for the past 2 years. With me, and I am sure others, it wasn't about being dumb it was about entrusted these individuals to give you accurate information.

It is true, I was also told that my credits would be able to transfer and I have found that noone is willing to take them and I would have to start over from the very beginning.
So this October I will have an A.S and $35,000 of debt on a degree that I can't transfer anywhere.

To all current and former students, and graduates of FMU/Everest:

Don't list this school on your resum! If you do, employers will not most likely not call you. They will think you went to a joke school or "diploma mill" and do not have the training necessary to do the job. I tried sending out a few resums without FMU listed, and I got calls. Coincidence? Maybe. The few calls I got when I listed FMU lead to interviews, but I didn't get hired.

(FMU is now also known as Everest College A.K.A. Everest University.)

Here is my sole opinion(s):

1. Do your research!- Question EVERYTHING, Stand for SOMETHING Settle for NOTHING. find out all you can about the colleges or schools in your area before you enroll. Ask Millions of questions 'til you are satisfied. You have the right to know, for you are investing your efforts, Time and money in them. I.E.: Are you a trade school, college or etc.? Are you Nationally Accredited?

2. FIY:You can file you own FASA application- Would you trust someone you barely known with your house or car keys? Same goes for your Financial information and Social Security Number. It is not hard. Visit www.fafsa.ed.gov, there should be more information.

3. Be-careful with School Scams, some obvious signs and sometimes not obvious are:

- The school Website looks cheesy, you have to input your information (like zip code, phone number and what not) before you can get any information on the courses or school and usually have a .com, .net, etc.. Some of these Scam Schools are now using .edu at the end of their web address so beware. Compare a Real College in your area to one of the scam schools.

-They Advertise on T.V. Way too much. I seen the commercial of the "student" on the coach boasting about their flexibility,pay rate, and how easy it is.(great actors aren't they) Now, I seen some community Colleges Advertise now and then, but not as frequent as these Scam Schools. At least they are more creative about it too!

- The Advertise in the Classifieds! What real College would stoop that low? A good school does not need not place an ad cause their reputation stand for itself.

- They change their names alot. I remember one school (that shall remain nameless) had institute, University, College change several times in 3 years!

- The Majors looks like Trades! Why would you get B.A. in being a receptionist, that goes for Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Patient Care Tech, Office Administration, etc.. and spend outrageous Ivy League Money. If that is the case go to a trade school, and don't spend so much. If you are in Orlando, Check out the Tech Schools, Orlando Tech, Winter-Park Tech and many more locations www.reinventme.org this site is a TRADE School Site not a College nor a University. Sometimes Depending on what you are interested in some courses/credits are transferable to local community colleges.

- Online courses are acceptable! not ONLINE UNIVERSITIES.--Some Community Colleges Offers Online Courses for Psychology, English, Etc.. Unlike the rest of scam schools they offer you false college degrees that when you look for a position in the Real World they don't accept these "schools". I.E.: _________ Online University Need NOT Apply. ( I am serious)

-If they disclose,make it difficult or refuse to let you know how much a course is or even the cost of attending there for a year, don't even bother with them.

4. Talk to people currently/formerly enrolled, ask them the pros and cons in their own situations..Where are they now? Are they in place where they are happy to be? Is it because of the school? and what not.

5. IF IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE....it usually is. (use commonsense.)


I am student at Valencia Community College and in hopes of transferring to UCF (University of Central Florida) soon, with a Degree in Political Science and Minor in Psychology. I am also a Mother and understand the desire of flexibility in one's schedule. I can absolutely relate.

this fmu thing is a real drag. if you get enough capital, you can start your own school and accreditation rules. it's unfortunate that they have preyed upon the hopes and dreams of students thinking they were getting a nationally-recognized education, when in fact their credits are not transferrable, and therefore a waste of time. Those who defend the actions of such entities are wretched people; all the legal mumbo-jumbo and misdirection, small print, etc. doesn't change that.

I am grateful to have been accepted to one of the finest graduate universities in the country, after having graduated from a cal-state university. i know all about these fake schools, and this ACICS or whatever acronym accreditation board is nothing more than a group of capatalists who have done the minimum required to become recognized as a school so that they can take student's borrowed money and play the financial aid game. there's an awful lot of money to be made by these dishonest jerks, and they are partly responsible for the tragic state of our nation's education system. we are becoming stupid, fat, lazy consumers and those who prey on the more naive and point to the law as if that justifies their behavior are still guilty.

since when is the law a beacon of morality? just because something is legal (more like someone found a loophole) doesn't make it right. shame on you for misleading your students! I myself and well on my way to becoming a legitimate professor of English Literature, and will make a point of destroying the reputations of these phony schools.

Education should be a worthwhile investment, and used to be an important part of enriching one's life. Since education has been appropriated by capitalist pigs, it has become a sad exuse...a parody of its former self. If our government is so apt at setting standards for education, how is it that we're cranking out illiterate h.s. grads? We have become the richest, but dumbest, fattest, irresponsible nation on earth.

I am yet another victim of FMU. I attended FMU-North Orlando last year. I tried contacting Valencia Community College to see if I could transfer my credits. The admissions rep sounded like she was trying not to laugh as she said "no, sorry." This school is a joke and a half. I heard that Barry University takes FMU credits but they are a joke too, they just got accredited a year or two ago and barely at that. If you go to the ABA website to check out their ratings of law schools, they have a bad rating and only about 50% of their students graduate. I'm sorry you got scammed too.
