I had much of the same problem as Dan in Rochester, NY, so I'll just copy and paste the appropriate sections from his complaint, then elaborate on my own experience:

"I received a $9.99 surprise charge on my Verizon Wireless bill last month. Upon further investigation, it was from a third-party service called "Flycell" for some "premium text messaging service" I supposededly subscribed to. I never signed up for anything...Flycell claims that one must do two things to sign up for their services (neither of which I ever did):
1) Go to their website and enter your mobile number and carrier.
2) Accept their terms and conditions and reply to a text message."

After replying to numerous text messages requestion to unsubscribe by texting the word "STOP" and "STOP TONE" with no response, I called Flycell.com's corporate office to unsubscribe. I connected to extension 422, who unsubscribed me after charging me for a second month of service (even though I never received anything from them). He also proceeded to deny ever receiving any text messages from me and blamed the problem on Verizon for not putting my text messages through! To unsubscribe immediately, I recommend calling him at extension 422 - skip the text messages and emails to unsubscribe because Flycell ignores them.

After speaking with Verizon, they agreed to credit my account the $9.99 charge. So, moral of the story, don't sign up for Flycell.com, and if you get charged anyway, call them to cancel, and call your cell phone carrier to credit your account.
