I booked the Folk Inn Ontario Airport Ontario, CA for one night stay through Hotwire.com   Hotwire charged my credit card twice...called them and they told me one of the charges would fall off/ will follow that

Arrived at Folk Inn ontario Airport, Ontario, CA and the desk clerk told me he had to hold my credit card before I could get a hotel key to my room.  The hold would be $50.   I asked him   as I was immediately suspicious - I work for DOC and US Marshall's   what kind of charges for incidentals would I incur - I arrived at 230 am and had not even seen the room to write a list of damages prior to viewing in person - why would the hotel clerk assume there would be any damages...humm   that sounds and feels like a threat to me...that's my money being held ...The fact that I am going to be responsible for damages    I am 65 yo tired and physically in poor shape..can't climb stairs and get tired easily...I only wanted to sleep in a bed FOR HEAVEN'S sake....I did not agree to this and hotwire.com never posted or listed this as an additional charge when arriving.   I refused and I called the Ontario police departments to alert them as I am sure they have some dealing with the reputation of the hotel.  I cannot express enough the thorough lack of concern for me from the desk clerk....The hotel was able to keep my money...they would not refund nor would hotwire.com cancel this booking..The Federal Trade Commission will be alerted to this.   I slept in my car and lost 62.50.

Since you have stated that Hotwire double charged your card and the hotel did not give you back the $50 deposit taking that from the $62.50 you lost, this room must have been $6.25 for the night.

Oh that's not what you are saying, you actually weren't double charged and you didn't have the $50 taken.  Well that is the impression you left, if that "impression" is wrong one has to wonder what other impressions are not exactly correct either.

Such as your employment.  Is the US Marshall service really that desparate that they employee people that are physically weak and tire easily(not withstanding your age).  Or is this not exactly the full story either?

Now, getting back to your "complaint".  It is STANDARD practice for hotels to hold a credit card for "Incidentals and Damage".  It isn't a threat, it isn't accusing you of anything...it is STANDARD.  It doesn't matter if you are in some flea-bag hotel in Skid Row or a 5-Star Resort.  The only difference is the amount, some may hold $50, others may hold $250 or more. Don't try and come back and say that you stay in hotels every night and have never had this happen, because people that truly do travel a lot will know that you are not telling the truth.

Oh, by the way what did the Ontario Police department tell you when you called them at 2:30AM to report this?
