The transmission on my wife's 1997 Ford Taurus went out last week, with no warning except that morning it happened. She was driving to work and after she stopped at an intersection, the car took for ever to get up to speed.

She called and said she was taking it to the dealership she bought it at to have them find out what is wrong. They called her back later that day and said it shouldn't be something serious since they had done service work on it a month ago and didn't notice anything wrong with it when they drove it, plus the tranny fluid didn't smell burnt.

The following day the called her and told her that the tranny was shot, and we would need a new one or they could rebuild this one for $2,300.00.

How could a tranny go completely to heck on a car with only 60,000 miles on it and no sign of slippage before that day. I have since heard that Ford has been offering "goodwill policies" to some customers who have complained to Ford. If anyone has heard of this practice, I would appreciate the address and contact person for my complaint letter.

Thanks,

Byron
