Ford is/was knowingly using a transmission that could not support the car in many vehicles.

Likely, you will not get help from ford with any of these vehicles or costs after warranty is up.  Our 2007 Escape went out on a 600 mile trip.  The car was 2 years old with 61,000 miles.  That just should happen!

What were the details with your particular situation? Are there other owners with similar problems?

Generally speaking, 61,000 miles for a transmission is not a lot of miles, but 61,000 for a two year old vehicle is high. Most vehicles average about 15,000 miles per year, so your right at double the average use. Also keep in mind that cars are man made and subject to breaking.

Ford's warranty for powertrain is 60,000 miles. Since you're at 61,000, you are technically out of warranty and they are not obligated to do anything. When you bought the vehicle, you probably had the option of buying an extended warranty to cover up to 100,000 miles. If you did that, then the transmission would have been repaired.
