My husband has a 1991 F250 diesel Truck with an E4OD transmission. The truck has about 160,000 miles on it and the transmission has been rebuilt 2 times by Midway Ford Kansas City MO. The 1st time was in 1992 while still under warranty 32,000 miles.

Then again we paid 2500.00 to have it rebuilt again by Midway Ford due to over heating in 1999. Then again in 2003 the torque converter and front seal had to be replaced. Now the transmission has 26,000 miles on it and has failed again.

It has overheated again. I was told that ford discovered in 1997 that the problem with these transmissions failing is due to overheating and they then started putting an extra cooler on them. We were told this by 3 different Ford Dealerships including Midway Ford.

The dealership said that Ford company supplies the coolers for them when they do the repairs. Yet my husbands truck was repaired twice since the time they discovered this and no extra cooler was installed nor were we told about the cooler. My husband called customer service at the Ford Company they said there is nothing they can do because there was no recall issued. Well there should have been. I have done some checking and most places that rebuilds transmissions will not guarantee the E4OD transmission if an extra cooler is not installed.
