I purchased a 1 pound container of Casey's Jumbo Lump Crabmeat from Virginia at my local fish market, Forest Hills Fishery on August 18, 2006 for $28.00. It was loaded with shells and grit. I made crab cakes with it and was unacceptable. On Saturday, I called the store and spoke to the owner about a refund. He said no refund, most likely because I paid in cash and when I pressed him for the refund he became abusive. This isn't about $28.00. This is a cheap, shoddy outfit that sells poor quality fish products. If 1 person less purchases from them than justice will be served. This is obviously a low quality scam operation that has managed to survive through deception. STAY CLEAR A WARNING.

FOREST HILLS FISHERY ~ The Best of the Best

#2Consumer Comment

Forest Hills Fishery has been in this same location for over 45 years. It is the cleanest and most pristinely maintained fish store I have ever shopped.

The walls, floor and counters are completely covered with tile and stainless steel. Every night after closing, the food is removed and the entire store is hosed down from ceiling to floor. There is NEVER a fishy smell or spec of dirt in this store. I have been shopping here at least once a week for the past 35 years.

WHO SHOPS THERE?
On many occasions I have seen Geraldine Ferrara (USA 1984 Vice Presidential Candidate) buying her fish there. The wife of ex-Queens Borough President, Donald Manes also shops there. Families who grew up in Forest Hills and moved to suburbs of Long Island drive back just to get their fish here.

There aren't enough accolades to write about this store, the quality and freshness of their fish both raw and prepared.

It's unfortunate that this gentleman who wrote the 'bad press' didn't realize that
this was a pre-packaged canned item he purchased, not representative of the fresh fish sold in this store. It CLEARLY STATES on every single can of every single brand of canned crab meat:

How to Cook Canned Crab Meat
An important thing to remember when using canned crab meat is to carefully look through it and remove any fragments of bone or shell you find. There are almost sure to be at least a few tiny shards in amongst the meat, and unexpectedly biting down on one can sure ruin the eating experience.

Because this gentleman did not do what HE was supposed to do, he blamed the fish store. Tsk! Tsk!

This is the same owner and staff for the 35 years I remember. You won't find a nicer group of people than the owner and his workers.

FOREST HILLS FISHERY on Austin Street in Forest Hills is the creme de la creme of fish markets.
