freecreditreport.com EXPERIAN *FREECREDR INFOFCR.COM CA Sneaky sneaksters, with itty print about enrolling for a membership (despite FREE in the name) Internet
Concerned about being defrauded by an acquaintance (due to fraud we discovered), my husband and I got onto freecreditreport.com to check his report and ensure that this acquaintance hadn't been using my husband's identity in other ways. Since we hadn't gotten our annual "free report", and since this website offers a report for $1, we signed in with our billing info and harvested the report.
Thankfully no concerning items appeared on his report, but then we were defrauded by this website: a recurring charge on our bank account for 19.95, a "membership fee". I let the first one go, thinking maybe we'd misinterpreted the $1 offer and it was actually 19.95, but when it appeared in the 2nd month I called.
Apparently in the terms and conditions (which are not prominently available on the website) it says this will happen if you don't "cancel" the "free trial" in 7 days.
My complaint is that their $ seems to be made mostly off of the errors of people simply trying to access their free annual credit report, rather than customers trying to use their membership service. Although we didn't read the fine print, I still consider this company a scam taking advantage of the public for this reason.
