freecreditreport.com Nothing free about it! McHenry Illinois
There are government agencies where you may obtain a "true" free credit report from. freecreditreport.com will charge your account $14.95 per month if you don't call and cancel. No bill or corespondence is ever mailed to you your account is just tapped and unless you are looking for the charge...
Again, nothing free about freecreditreport.com unless youcancel 7 days after you sign up. I am surprised the FTC lets them advertise as "Free". I hope I have atleast helped someone from being taken as I was.

Mick,
There are no government agencies that offer credit reports, as you claimed.
However, the ONLY website you can get your three FREE credit reports from under federal law is www.annualcreditreport.com and understand that these free reports DO NOT include scores.
You must pay for scores if you want them.
You can also contact each credit bureau by phone to ask for your free annual credit report.
As far as freecreditreport.com goes, all of the details are fully disclosed and all you had to do was read what you were agreeing to. Although I do agree that they are running a scam and should not be able to get away with the deceptive ads, etc.
"FREE" should never require a purchase.

People don't goto the site to sign up for a monthly charge to their credit card for a crap credit monitoring service. They go to see their credit report. But thats what happens, they end up getting screwed. Even if only 10% of the people forget to call and cancel I bet they still rake in the money.
What if grocery stores automatically signed you up for a pie of the month club every time you bought a pie. Oh by the way they charge your credit card for it, weather you wanted to be in the club or not. This still wouldn't be as bad because at least pie's are useful.

No 'fine print' about it.

Its free if you cancel right away, but you have to read the fine print.'
--It on the left side of the page - taking about half the page - in the blue box, in the same size print as the rest of the page. How can you NOT miss it? Not misleading in the least and they even tell you where to get the absolutely free one.

Its just this side of legal and misleading the way they market it. I used this site and figured that they would try to screw me so I canceled the monthly service 5 min after I printed the report.
